BB4fking Posted June 10, 2019 Report Posted June 10, 2019 In New Zealand, if you’re eligible (as young guys fucking around bareback will be) PrEP is paid for in the public health system so the drug is free although you pay a $5 dispensing fee for a 3 month supply. You also have to see a doctor every three months and get the necessary laboratory tests. A doctor costs about $40 and the lab tests are free. Actually you can dispense with some of these small costs if you use a pharmacy that does not charge the dispensing fee and if the doctor is willing, with the lab results, to write a repeat prescription without a further consultation (a repeat prescription alone would be about $15). These are NZ$, US$1 v NZ1.6 or so. If the guy is not at high risk the drug is not free but the arrangement is still reasonably affordable, about $100 a month locally for a months supply or less if self-import on the internet (which is legal) with a NZ prescription.
