Correct. That's about the only way such a thing could happen.

Otherwise, HAART (the kind of treatment poz people receive to get their virus levels down to undetectable) is effective long-term. As long as you're not being reinfected with a new AND far more aggressive strain of HIV, your existing meds should protect against that kind of boost in your HIV levels, assuming the undetectable guy is diligent in taking his meds.
