RawNYTop Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 I was checking out an old email address that I never use anymore and found something interesting in my junk folder from 3 weeks ago. Has anyone ever received a message like the one below: Hello pervert, I've sent this message from your Microsoft account. I want to inform you about a very bad situation for you. However, you can benefit from it, if you will act wisеly. Have you heard of Pegasus? This is a spyware program that installs on computers and smartphones and allows hackers to monitor the activity of device owners. It provides access to your webcam, messengers, emails, call records, etc. It works well on Android, iOS, macOS and Windows. I guess, you already figured out where I’m getting at. It’s been a few months since I installed it on all your dеviсеs because you were not quite choosy about what links to click on the intеrnеt. During this period, I’ve learned about all aspects of your private life, but оnе is of special significance to me. I’ve recorded many videos of you jerking off to highly controversial роrn videos. Given that the “questionable” genre is almost always the same, I can conclude that you have sick реrvеrsiоn. I doubt you’d wаnt your friends, fаmily аnd co-workers to know аbout it. However, I cаn do it in а few clicks. Every number in your contаct Iist will suddenly receive these vidеоs – on WhаtsApp, on Telegrаm, on Instаgrаm, on Fаcebook, on emаil – everywhere. It is going to be а tsunаmi thаt will sweep аwаy everything in its pаth, аnd first of аll, your fоrmеr life. Don’t think of yourself аs аn innocent victim. No one knows where your реrvеrsiоn might leаd in the future, so consider this а kind of deserved рunishmеnt to stop you. I’m some kind of God who sees everything. However, don’t pаnic. As we know, God is merciful аnd forgiving, аnd so do I. But my mеrсy is not free. Trаnsfer 1550$ to my Litecoin (LTC) wаllet: (removed link) Once I receive confirmаtion of the trаnsаction, I will реrmаnently delete аll videos compromising you, uninstаll Pegаsus from аll of your devices, аnd disаppeаr from your life. You cаn be sure – my benefit is only money. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be writing to you, but destroy your life without а word in а second. I’ll be notified when you open my emаil, аnd from thаt moment you hаve exаctly 48 hours to send the money. If cryptocurrencies аre unchаrtered wаters for you, don’t worry, it’s very simple. Just google “crypto exchange” or "buy Litecoin" аnd then it will be no hаrder thаn buying some useless stuff on Amаzon. I strongly wаrn you аgаinst the following: * Do not reply to this emаil. I've sent it from your Microsoft аccount. * Do not contаct the police. I hаve аccess to аll your dеviсеs, аnd аs soon аs I find out you rаn to the cops, videos will be published. * Don’t try to reset or destroy your dеviсеs. As I mentioned аbove: I’m monitoring аll your аctivity, so you either аgree to my terms or the vidеоs аre рublished. Also, don’t forget thаt cryptocurrencies аre аnonymous, so it’s impossible to identify me using the provided аddrеss. Good luck, my perverted friend. I hope this is the lаst time we heаr from eаch other. And some friendly аdvice: from now on, don’t be so cаreless аbout your online security.
tboyer Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 I received the same email, it did give me a chuckle, I'm retired now and I could care less who receives my "viewing habits" I did run a scan that took 13 hours though 1

Delete and move on.
TaKinGDeePanal Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 A number of us have received exactly the same email. I would daresay even vanilla people who aren't into any of the stuff we are have received it. The only difference is that we speak to each other as a community when we receive it, which is healthier than the mindfuck trick that this particular factory of hackers is trying to extort. In the words of George W Bush, aka "Shrub", "it's a nothingburger". As @Westlonlad has said, delete it.
PozBearWI Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 To be more accurate what that email is @RawNYTop is a phishing attempt. Delete it, do nothing and you'll be fine. Phishing attempts seem to be on the rise. If one opens the attachments, they are a risk, perhaps significant risk, so I strongly advice you never, ever click on a link from someone you know. And be aware you'll want to be certain it's that person. There is also an uptick in emails from "friends", but when you look at the detail of what the email address actually used it, it isn't yours (or mine as the case may be). Now, WRT your home network. You might do well to consider Intrusion Detection if you're ISP doesn't already provide that as a service. And a VPN these days is just a better practice. And if you haven't, invest in a high quality home security suite that can recognize attributes of malware if not the specific malware itself, and simply block that.
gingerdaddyG Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 I received the same email a few months back. I simply deleted it and moved on with my life. 1 1

Indeed, it helps to know what to look for as they seem to come in these clusters; a whole bunch in a day or two and then quiet as long as I ignored them.
Leobboy Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 It is scary because the software he is talking about is real, according to articles on the topic, you don’t even have to click on the link, they just need to sent you a text or mail. However, it seems that only governments to the top highest level have access to it, I doubt that scammers have access to it.
wild-horny-bttm Posted February 2 Report Posted February 2 software is real but the 'scamster' is trying their luck by shooting in the dark (in my opinion); don't fall for it. Click the links with awareness and tape your cam if you have to.
RawNYTop Posted February 2 Author Report Posted February 2 A couple of things I have noticed. We all have "playful friends: in our contact list , and never once did I recieve an email outing them. Secondly my debauchery is only worth $1550? Lastly, I don't have a built in webcam, it is external and tucked away. I only use for zoom meetings. There is a special place in hell for thee scammers.

Your email address was leaked on the dark web and scammers are trying to scare you.

Here are a few articles on how this specific scam was created - but if you just want to move on delete it and ignore it like the others mentioned. In case of malware or ransomware, you can restore your data from backups instead of paying a ransom. 1
ellentonboy Posted February 3 Report Posted February 3 I have posted about this very same subject in another thread. 99.9 percent are idiots, who have no capabilities to do what they say they will do. They found your email address from a previous hack and decided to harass you. More than likely they are in Eastern Europe, they'll ask for payments in BitCoin and sometimes even ask for the money in Euros rather than dollars, that is a clue to any American. They don't have your content list, and I know I never have "pleasured" myself while visiting an adult web site that they claim they recorded. It's just a scare tactic. Just block them and report it as spam. Find yourself the best Malware protection that works for your type of computer, turn your location settings off on your smart phones unless you absolutely need the app. And always use a VPN whenever possible, I know some sites will try and force you to turn it off but I have found sometimes I can sign on with my phone and it will connect, while my laptop may not. These people are desperate. My former employer told me my information was on the black web, and they were right. I have had to freeze all my credit reports and only open them for creditors when I need to. It's part of the world we live in, it's not fun, but you can survive it. Don't let it control your life, the person harassing you in probably sitting in the basement of his parent's house and has no idea who you are. But protect your financial information and make sure to check your credit reports regularly. 1
