most places have a local leather enthusiasts group that hosts events and pageants usually at the local leather bar. 

in my experience, local gay nudist groups also have a high %of guys into gear. 

if we're talking bdsm, most nudist gay campgrounds also have a public dungeon on site it seems. 

i find people are more open about their kinks on bbrt or recon but i also find that kink groups are tight knit cliques and very hard to break into as a newbie. 

but if you're just looking for quick hookups w other guys into gear, ive done ok on scruff.

As far as I know, there are precious few *real* Leatherbars left.  There's only one that I know of here in Ft. L., that being the local Eagle.  Ramrod was a great Leatherbar at one time, but those days are long gone.  I wonder what I'm going to do with all that gear .......

It’s over in Vancouver, and I don’t even know if it’s still there, but the pump jack was a great leather bar.
