While reading stories in various content areas, I regularly, though not frequently, see the parenthetical (banned word) apparently substituted for a word or words originally in the story but removed presumably either by the author or a moderator. I searched the site but came up empty handed. I feel like I'm not in on the joke while also concerned I'll use one or more banned word and get in trouble.  Are some words banned and who decided that was appropriate?

Moderator's Note: I cannot write out a list of the banned words because the software would replace each one with the message you have seen.
No one gets in trouble for using one; the only way you get in trouble is by trying to evade the filter.

Making up an example. Suppose "pussy" was one of those words. You would not get in trouble unless you typed "pu$$y" to get around the filter.

The admin has decided that certain words will not be allowed. He does not discuss this with anyone including the moderators; he just puts the filter in.

Thank you for the explanation. It's got to be extremely tough to manage an adult website with the laws being passed - state to state, country to country.

I (and I'm certain WE ALL) appreciate the fact that this site is so well managed, and has been able to remain not only viable but current, exciting, and open, for such a long time. Thanks to all who make it happen.

This subject percolates up every so often as new members discover the ban. This is not the only forum I am active in where I have seen certain words banned or even phrases. Almost always it relates to words that are often used to to refer to sex with underage individuals. I know some reddit groups have even gone as far as to ban the phrase barely legal.

I can respect a forum owner or mod of a forum not wanting to become a gathering site for those that want to use the forum to discuss that topic since there are those out there hunting to take down anything related to that topic.
