What do you think is the main cause of homophobia?

Just plain ignorance is what drives homophobes. They think its hot to bash gay people and that it makes them more manly when it acutally just shows how stupid they really are. And another thing that definitely has gone a long way to create homophobia is the catholic churchs lack of interest in prosecuting pedophile priests. There is a new show on HBO called Mea Maxima Culpa it explores the vast amount of pedophile priests and the damage they have done over the years. It clearly names Joseph Ratzenburger aka Pope Benedict as one of the leading causes of the vaticans failure to do anything about this problem. Before he was pope he was hand picked by Pope John Paul as the sole source for all complaints regarding priests abusing boys. His failure to do anything has caused great harm to many men over the years. So who is kidding who here. The pope resigning because of age bull shit he is resigning because he does not want to be liable for any fallout over this film. He will live out his life protected in the Vatican where no one can come after him. Wake up catholics of the world. Demand action now.

I know in the black community it is all based on religion, they still believe what they think some guy said 2000 years ago and so are just ignorant to how the world has changed. So yeah like most answers on, it all comes down to ignorance.

Societies stereotypical impression of a gay man is a feminine type or the "flamer". Which is actually rare. In the man circles being a man and maning up is threatened by the feminine stereotype. So straight men see gay men as feminine and use term like "pussies, fags, queers". They also associate it with being the female, they almost always see a gay guy as the person getting fucked, rarely to they see it as the gay guy toppng.

Religion, they just have sex issues period lol

I think the homophobics are either religious who are trying to hide their own homosexuality, or they're simply afraid of their own ass.

They simply haven't felt a good cock yet.

I think there is  a  basic core  root for the hatred/fear/dismissal of  homosexuality. A long time ago, governments could rule the masses with force, but that took a lot of bodies  flowing in to the ranks of soldiers. Force alone tho would not work 100% of the time to rule in the masses, and the leaders knew that, so they partnered with churches ( hence, todays  tax free status of prime real estate if the church owns it) The church- be it Catholic, Protestant,Muslim,Jewish, or  any other- had a directive- scare the fuck out of the masses with  the prospect of  some super being  watching  their every move, and anyone who misbehaves will go to HELL!!  (or whatever evil place their  book of fiction created) And since  both the church, and the government , needed foot soldiers ( priests) , those men who  found sexual pleasure and release with another man were not producing  fresh  babies to be fed into the  military or rectory. In a weird sense- the church and the government knew what cum sluts today know-- cum is a very honored and precious  item !  So birth control was taboo, homo sex was taboo, abortion was the ultimate taboo. Church and state thrived as their  followers grew and  the sheer mass  fed  the church ( as I recall, the Catholic church had a certain expectation that one son or daughter  from each family would follow the "calling", and of course governments recruited the young  into the military--some as a civic  responsibility; other times by force-- and hence they had  fresh  bodies to throw at their next enemy.

A lot of our current shifting of opinion comes from a connected society- fewer people  exist under the dominance of the church as they  became educated and aware, and  today, most  warfare can be done by  robots and drones, so having a non stop supply of hard bodied young  people is not the same crisis it might have been  even 50 years ago.

And, maybe if everyone  was at least bi-sexual, there would be a much greater resistance to killing that hot fucker across the trench from you, and instead  a nice long  hot sweaty fucking would  be better <g>

I feel like the closeted are scared to death of their desires.  And a growing number of studies are beginning to confirm that the most homophobic seem to react most "erect-ly" to gay porn.  And I have wondered if the straight dudes are just pissed that they can't fuck with abandon like gay males can, so the jealousy begins.

I think it's also important to just be an individual first. I'm not part of the gay "community" or the straight one, I just am me first. I happen to like guys and girls, I don't make my identity my sexual orientation like many people do, I think that can be annoying. But to the point previously made of the people I've explained my sexual interests to, I've found those that have questioned it the most(oh you're just in a transitional phase, you're just afraid to be gay) are from gay men. I think as soon as you start becoming too focussed on being part of a group before just being yourself that's when all the nasty stuff like prejudice and over-sensitivity and language policing come in. It's just easier to accept there will always be stupid people who say stupid things in this world. Where it matters is in the law, if there is a law preventing you from doing something because of your persuasion, then focus your energy on fixing that. Don't get hung up on what some troll says behind his keyboard.
