Need Recommendation for A decent Camcorder to Film Homemade Porn

Hey guys,

I have dabbled in making videos with the boyfriend before using our phones but the quality and lighting is mediocre at best and have been planning on getting a small (and fairly cheap) device to record videos with. There are SO many models (and so many brands) that I'm just at a complete loss as to which one to go with.

It'd be great if anyone with some experience filming homemade vids could give some recommendations on models and tips etc. Here are my specifications so far:

- I use a Mac (OS 10.6 and 10.8) so it must be compatible with one or both of those.

- I'm hoping to spend less than $200

- I'd like it to have a light on it so I don't always have to set up lighting / lose footage due to certain positions casting shadows etc.

- I'm thinking itd be easiest if it were digital, recording onto an SD card so that I could just xfer the vids via firewire or usb or card reader to my computer?

Any suggestions? Would love to hear from some people who have filmed their own videos and are happy with their device :)

The Go-Pro line is a very good camera, and versatile in many ways, if you buy the black edition you get loads of

attachments for it, including helmet attachments, great if you go skiing, water housing great if you're a diver, plus car

attachments if you're a vlogger. It's compact and easy to use and it also has wifi ...

The better the camera, the better it will do with natural light. But one way or the other always have the light source (e.g. the window) behind the camera. So many people shoot with a window behind the action - that will always result in a bad video.

You might want to think about shooting in SD. You can probably find a really good SD camera that does well in low-light that's inexpensive.

My other thought is that Apple removed support for HD video from iMovie. You may be able to import it, but I don't think you can export to HD. I've been trying to work with Adobe Premiere Elements (the cheap version of Premiere) and I sorta hate it - it's too dumbed down.

And lastly, if you get sorta good at it, I might be interested in buying the videos off you, but you'll need proper documentation (consent + ID).

ya, I actually know a fair amount about light sources, editing (as planning on using final cut, as I can't stand imovie) and so on because I majored in graphic design which resulted in me taking a ton of photography classes and so on.

I should probably clarify that when I said I would like it to have a light on the camera, that's mostly because I don't want to have to constantly be thinking about the light sources, whether I need to have reflectors and soft boxes etc set up, you know, I'd rather be thinking about getting fucked while I'm getting fucked hahaha.

So basically I've been trying to figure out what the best camera will be that can do enough on its own that if I'm in a setting where things are dark or backlit or casting strong shadows or something the footage isnt completely ruined.

And of course I'm trying to find all of this for under 200$...maybe I'm being unrealistic haha.

Have you checked out the latest version of FCP and what people are saying about it? People hate it. Not sure why Apple is fucking up so many of the video products for OS X...

If you're doing under $200 - do SD with a shoe on top that you can plug a light into. There should be some great, lightly used SD cameras out there.

No i hadn't seen or heard about the new final cut pro..sad to hear it's not being recieved well cause the current version I have makes imovie look like kidpix.

Thanks for the advice on the camera specs, I'm thinking an SD will prob be my best bet too. now i just need to figure out what brand / model to get that is compatible with a mac that has decent resolution, image stabilization or w/e it's called, figure out a lighting situation, and then I won't be stuck with crappy iphone footage! haha.

If only I'd been interested in filming this stuff when I was still in college..i could "rent" up to $20,000 worth of studio equipment for free! haha now thatd be some good quality fuckflicks

I've been making amatuer porn for over 3 years. Most of them have been shot with the built in webcam on my MacBook Pro and edited in iMovie. I started adding a second camera angle with my iPhone or my partner in the scene having a phone. I recently bought my first HD Camcorder, a Sony. I bought it used since I wasn't really sure what i am looking for, so I didn't want to commit to new. Google B & H photo. Go there if near one online service is excellent there too.

Max Sohl of Treasure Island Media has given me some advice on occasion, though we've never met, and the first thing he told me was exactly what RT said about making sure the light source is behind the camera. I've made that mistake, even recently, and even a lamp in the room can be adequate lighting. I think it is more important to make the scene hot, and the point of view interesting. I also got Final Cut Pro several months ago. I was excited about it at first, but I like iMovie. My videos are not about technique as much as they are about my storytelling scenarios, natural raw sex, and the element of risk. No matter how good your lighting or your camera, if your scenes are boring, then your video will be boring. A camera with an intense light attached will consume battery power like mad and will really be intrusive. Just be creative and be as slutty and raw as you dare. I have been taught that the best camera is the one the you have with you.

It's not so much that I'm trying to achieve professional porn quality footage (or even close to it) as much as i just dont want any of the shots to be unusable. It's so irritating when I make a video and a really hot angle / shot is ruined by having too many shadows, too much stuttering or something like that (which can happen so easily with a phone as the camera lol).

I actually saw you post in another thread linking your videos followed by lotso f people applauding them so I'll admit..I recently watched quite a few of them  haha

I;ve been debating Sony or Canon (I use a canon digital camera / photo equipment when I shoot professional photography for my design work so I'm already somewhat biased haha). I just odn;t know as much about camcroders as I do point-shoot cameras so picking a brad / model is proving to be difficult.

And I agree with you that the most important part of any amateur video is the story / mood, I just get super anal (pun intended) about stuff like lighting and quality since I studied / work in the design world haha. Basically I'm trying to find a good enough device that it can alleviate some of the details that I would normally worry about / feel the need to fiddle with such as shadows, stuttering, glare, etc (which can detract from the mood / naturalness of the scene).

Thanks for watching my vids. It is so hot to know men get off watching them. You can't imagine. I'm alot like you as far as being anal about things and I also have a Master of Fine Arts degree in Media Design so I get where you are coming from. Editing is the really hard part. You are always going to have shots that get cut, so don't worry about that. Just have great sex, keep rolling, and then edit it simply, cleanly and tell a story. Most important: never let it be obvious to the view that you (the bottom) is in charge or directing. Just my personal opinion, but I think it's a major turn off. It's better to get an awkward shot than to reposition the top or tell him what to do. Unless you are doing a "bossy bottom" video. There is probably an audience for that too. lol
