otebbtop Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 (edited) What I'm suggesting would literally take a page from FB in that the section would update with feeds from those you've added as friends (rather than everyone) and also include feeds from thread discussions that you've participated in (aka "like") with the option to disable the feed when you're no longer wanting to follow it. FB's "like" feature is two-fold in that people like (or appreciate) something (or I think you might use the term I posted elsewhere "Got Wood" ) the other function of "like" is that it is how you indicate that you wish to follow a topic or thread. Of course, I don't know your own exposure but I may a different perspective on this because I use FB extensively in my professional life. I think the ability of a "status update" (or some such) would help to strengthen "the brotherhood" by encouraging social interaction beyond breeding stories (don't get me wrong - they're great!). I might include a status that "wow, just toxified a really hot pig" or to share other information/ruminations that don't fit into the blog, threads, groups or forums (AND that I only want to share with my "friends"). It probably does need to include an option for your friends with an option to "follow" (or not). Someone might decide whether to follow (or not) your updates because they're interesting, fun, quirky - fucking nuts...whatever. Edited July 1, 2014 by otebbtop
otebbtop Posted July 1, 2014 Report Posted July 1, 2014 Taking another gander at the What's New Activity Stream might be adaptable with a filter based on your friends/friends of friends with the addition of a status (including privacy settings to allow view by friends/friends of friends/all). Just trying to help build a better mousetrap (er...pigpen?)
Administrators rawTOP Posted July 2, 2014 Administrators Report Posted July 2, 2014 otebbtop - take a look at your own profile page. It has all the activity for people you've friended. The only thing that's missing is the concept of a "status update" - because forums are more about longer-length discussion.
Bbikercub Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 I'd like to be a me to filter out the straight stuff as I have noticed it increasing in prominence, but has no relevance to me. I also like the idea of a better mobile interface. I still use forum runner as i find it easier to navigate although some of the web functionality lost.
otebbtop Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 (edited) My profile page does include activity feeds from my friends but it's not quite the same as what I had suggested. I deal with the functionality that is available on any platform, using the tools that are available to me. I'm not a smartphone user (at present...although i'm being dragged into that technology). Entering that realm has the potential to open new avenues for playmates (Grindr, Growlr or whatever they're called). I'm sure there are some that use only these "app based" hookup mechanisms. What draws us to favor one system over another (on a preference level) is the member activity, since a majority of us are on all of the platforms. Some of us use the same screenname on each, some don't. This same person/different station effect is illustrated with BBRT, which significantly whittles down the same community existing on a4a by eliminating those not interested in bb. That could be an over-simplification. What is missing from these other systems is what is offered here on BreedingZone – group (or community) discussion--at least as far as i'm aware...but i certainly could have overlooked it somehow. We're a fickle lot – what makes us happy now is passe this afternoon. There's no right and wrong - it all boils down to motivation, behavior and priorities. Why you use a system, and how you use it. Do you use a platform running continuously in the background (as I) or visit weekly/monthly. Do you use a desktop or mobile device? Do you like to stay in touch or use only when you're looking for porn or play? Play now or later, anonymous or someone you've gotten to know. What is your background...someone from Rocky Gulch, Montana is going to be much differently motivated than someone from a large metro area (where they may be able to just kneel or back up to a hole at the baths and get happy). I noticed this morning a major change to a4a – don't know what improvement it provides. Personally (to this point) what I have liked about a4a? It's free. In the interim between signing into a4a this am and finishing this novella – a4a has returned to its old appearance. My comments are just food for thought - if this post has strayed too far from the topic of the thread, I apologize. Edited July 2, 2014 by otebbtop created in wordprocessor, edited for formatting
Administrators rawTOP Posted July 2, 2014 Administrators Report Posted July 2, 2014 otebbtop - This site is what it is. Major changes like that won't be made here. (Plus, I don't quite understand what you're asking for - I think you want me to mine other sites for data on users - but not completely sure). BUT, I'm (slowly) working on BBBH.com - it will be more flexible and have more of the features you're looking for.
otebbtop Posted July 2, 2014 Report Posted July 2, 2014 otebbtop - This site is what it is. I won't make a fuss over that - I do enjoy what it offers. I think you want me to mine other sites for data on users - but not completely sure. Not exactly, but not being a techy-type maybe that is what I suggested? What i meant was just incorporate the features that folks like from the many platforms we all use into a one stop shop. Major changes like that won't be made here. OK BUT, I'm (slowly) working on BBBH.com - it will be more flexible and have more of the features you're looking for. Sounds exciting--I look forward to it! I would prefer to find one platform (be it subscription or not) rather than chat with the same folks through three separate platforms and paying (or "donating") three separate fees. Thanks again for all you do!
Simons Posted July 4, 2014 Report Posted July 4, 2014 I'm not making any changes to the software running this forum. I'm about to replace it with something else. But even then what I can do will be limited and complicated since it's off-the-shelf software so I have to make changes by writing plug-in otherwise it will break every time there's a version upgrade. What software are you changing too? also is there a way of buying extra PM space?
azpozloadtaker Posted August 5, 2014 Report Posted August 5, 2014 I'd like to be a me to filter out the straight stuff as I have noticed it increasing in prominence, but has no relevance to me I too would like to be able to filter or opt-out of the str8/bi stuff eventually.. but understand not wanting to modify a site that may be changing,,
Administrators rawTOP Posted August 23, 2014 Administrators Report Posted August 23, 2014 I'm locking this thread and unpinning it since so many people are posting in the wrong place. If you're having problems with recent upgrade please post in the thread that's dedicated to that topic.
