23seed
Hey guys, So I'm currently on PrEP through Gilead's assistance program. I'll be moving to the LA area next month, and I'll only have about 7-10 days worth of Truvada once I get there.. I'll be driving across the country. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do? Gilead said I should just get an appointment with a doctor as soon as I get there and have the doctor get a new prescription which takes a few more days to process. I just don't want to get into a situation where I won't have medication. Is there a possibility of getting a refill before? Also, if you have any suggestions for doctors who have experience with PrEP in LA, it would be great. Thanks for the help!
Administrators rawTOP Posted July 30, 2014 Administrators Report Share Posted July 30, 2014 Given that PrEP appears to be effective when taken 4x/week, you might think of skipping a few doses here and there to stretch the time you have to get a new script once you get to LA. Tell your current doctor you are moving, and inform Gilead about it too, and you should be able to get another bottle. I have a friend on PrEP who is out of the country for 3-6 months, and he got a 3 month supply before he left a month ago. He also gets assistance from the program. RodDallas
Two thoughts. Being Alive is a small West Hollywood ASO that will use their relationships with big Pharma & local pharmacies to try to connect an individual with small quantities of antiviral meds on an emergency basis. There is no charge for the service, you don't have to live in West Hollywood and you are not required to be a client. They aren't always able to arrange a connection, but it wouldn't hurt to give them a call or stop by when you arrive. Being Alive 7531 Santa Monica Boulevard, Suite 100 West Hollywood, CA 90046 323-874-4322 Mon - Fri 10-5 http://www.beingalivela.org http://www.facebook.com/BeingAliveLA I'd recommend against AHF, AIDS Healthcare Foundation, and its physicians. Nothing to suggest physicians are disinclined to provide PrEP or that quality of care is compromised. But..... Links are about AHF and President & CEO, Michael Weinstein. A call for Michael Weinstein to resign because he called Truvada a 'party drug' while he was fighting its approval for PrEP. http://www.change.org/petitions/ahf-remove-weinstein Michael Weinstein's response in The Fight says his concern is with lack of compliance and abandonment of condoms. http://thefightmag.com/2014/05/weinsteins-stand/ AHF docs want to unionize saying AHF focuses on politics and not enough on patients. http://www.wehoville.com/2013/09/27/doctors-want-form-union-arguing-ahf-focuses-much-politics-enough-patients/ AHF statement of principles - N.B. Just red flags regarding time and money spent that don't seem to link to fighting HIV.
pigpozdad
@23seed: just stop fucking. Go on a sex-free holiday until you get a new prescription filled, and then still wait the requisite weeks for it to get into your bloodstream, before you offer up your ass.
