mn6 Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 Thanks for the heads-up. Your article required a website login, but I found an accessible article with details: http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20140924005544/en/Gilead’s-Investigational-Tenofovir-Alafenamide-TAF--Based-Single It looks like TAF will be a little gentler on kidneys and bones. seaguy Posted September 27, 2014 Report Posted September 27, 2014 I didn't see any mention of PrEP it just refers to HIV infected populations in the article so wouldn't they still have to do studies like they did with truvada on HIV negative people to see if tenofovir is effective at preventing HIV? The active agent, Tenofovir, is exactly the same, so I don't think they have to redo the studies. I think they are even trying PrEP formulations with TAF/FTC(Emtricitabine) which would be the updated version of Truvada using TAF 1 Quote
Pitt1988 Posted September 28, 2014 Author Report Posted September 28, 2014 Hi seaguy, They did not mention truvada, but as we already know; Tenofovir is a component of truvada, so im sure if the studies are related to Tenofovir, it will also apply to the truvada prep combo, it would be great it this can be ready by next year. rawfuckr Posted September 28, 2014 Report Posted September 28, 2014 Here's an excelent summary side by side of both Tenofovir prodrugs, TDF (tenofovir disoproxil fumarate, the existing marketed tenofovir prodrug) vs TAF (Tenofovir alafenamide fumarate, the new out that's about to come out) http://hivinsite.ucsf.edu/insite?page=hmq-1305-01 Quote
