Hooking up with twitter

My sex life used to revolve around bathhouses almost exclusively. Then I discovered apps, mainly Grindr and since going on PrEP also BBRTS. I had been responsible for a twitter account in my work but had never used it in my private life until porn was forced off tumblr and I realised twitter was awash with amateur bareback pictures and videos combined with personal messages and commentary. About a year ago I realised guys were hooking up via twitter and so I started following more local guys. So far I’ve had two hookups, one where I responded to someone else’s announcement he was hosting that day, and another I initiated by messaging a guy who had been posting hot videos.  That turned into a really hot threesome video session.

Twitter is a really interesting environment for hooking up. It’s not really designed for this purpose, unlike sex apps, which can make it fun, frustrating and satisfying. The apps are controlled spaces whereas twitter is a bit rough around the edges when used for seeking sex. It’s has some qualities in common with old fashioned personal contact ads and others a bit like cruising on a beach or bar. There are no standardised profiles, as with apps, yet many twitter accounts present themselves along the lines of various fetishes.  One aspect that I find quite exciting is the willingness to take videos and pictures, after all tweets are frequently visual. Whether the results are posted perhaps with twitter handles shown is a matter of negotiation. Some guys will mask their identities, others flaunt them, and of course sometimes one guy is identifiable with the other obscured.

While in terms of quantity of sex Grindr is more productive for me, I enjoy exploring twitter as a hookup channel. Getting videos of encounters retweeted provides a kind of positive reinforcement. I’m interested in hearing of other guys’ experiences of what seems to be a still evolving gay sex environment.
