I've been to KL three times and always enjoyed my time there. 

Otherwise I've been to Penang and Malacca but too short to really find out how good those places are. Penang's population is mostly of Chinese decent unlike the rest of country which is much more mixed. I've been to a gay sauna in KL and also a gay bar so the scene there is somewhat visible.

No doubt it’ll be a while before the ‘Grand tour’ will be easy to arrange but if you were expanding beyond Thailand and the Philippines I’d also suggest Taipei, as already mentioned, and perhaps Hong Kong.
