valldelxeno Posted September 26, 2021 Report Posted September 26, 2021 Probably asking in the wrong place here, but I just don't get who could possibly prefer condoms in their porn. Like everyone obviously prefers to fuck bare, whether or not people choose to do it themselves, weighing up the pros and cons...but surely in porn, which is meant to be a kind of fantasy land, bareback should be universally preferred?
BootmanLA Posted September 26, 2021 Report Posted September 26, 2021 I don't think it's a case of the viewers wanting condom porn (though there are certainly some) as much as it's performers wanting to avoid various STI's, up to and including HIV. It's not that it's a perfect protection system, but if you really don't want to be picking up syphilis or gonorrhea or whatever, a condom does offer some protection. Also bear in mind that a lot of porn exists from the days before PrEP and the sex video industry felt obligated to model responsible behavior lest local governments impose such draconian rules that filming would become impossible.
Kimberley Posted September 26, 2021 Report Posted September 26, 2021 I've seen some documentaries about the porn industry, and even with all those testing etc still there are outbrakes of HIV and STI's in porn. seen one documentary where a woman immediately had chlamydia after her first shoot. porn is an example for many people and what they see is what they want to practice. porn have a big influence on us as comunity and i know for sure porn is the reason why bareback sex is became the standard for many people. that's why in some US states it's forbidden to produce bareback porn any longer. for a big company it's not a problem at all because they just shoot their movies somewhere else, but for the small company's it's a huge problem and they have to shoot porn with condoms. i noticed it already that more and more safesex porn is released over the years. it is a reminder that bareback sex comes with risks
Bimarried001 Posted September 26, 2021 Report Posted September 26, 2021 If I’m watching a good porn and then see condom use I immediately switch to another porn. There are enough bareback porn available for me to watch safe sex porn. I’m not saying they should not protect themselves, I’m saying I don’t have to watch because I have choice. Even in person. If I’m watching someone fuck in any public place I frequent, if I see anyone with a condom I move on to the next fuck scene. 2

It just makes me wonder how condom porn is commercially viable is all

I go to a theater in NY and all of the gay porn the show are with condom but the straight porn is raw.

So if it's still being made, clearly there's at least some market for it, enough to sustain it. Because if, as you seem to suggest, people always prefer condomless over condom porn and only accept the condom variety reluctantly, then porn produced in other places, where condoms aren't required, would quickly put the condom studios out of business. The cost to send high-def video files around the world for distribution is so low that there's not even an advantage in distribution costs to "go local".
verslut Posted September 28, 2021 Report Posted September 28, 2021 Is this directed towards viewers or actors? For viewers, demand for bareback is obviously growing. But some people (not myself) don't like the trend towards bareback porn. Reasons can vary. Some think it sets a bad example for younger viewers. Some think condom porn is safer for actors.
