Well, an orgy or gangbang featuring  1 top and 10 bottoms will not satisfy everyone, unless the top is on some serious viagra-like medication. On the other hand, 10 tops and 1 insatiable bottom combination, will surely be a success and full satisfaction for everyone. Prior to the "fans only" type porn, the studios had seemed to completely stop making flip fucking scenes. There were performers that were versatile, but they weren't topping and bottoming in the same scene. Like you I prefer scenes where all the performers get dicked.

FWIW: I suspect that there's a bigger market for porn with more clearly defined roles for the performers, because I suspect that a solid majority of people identify as leaning more one way or the other - lots of people claim to be versatile, but when queried on it, they almost always have a solid preference for one or the other role. 

So when performers have defined roles in the video, it's easier for the typical porn consumer to identify with the characters. If the bottom is the "star", bottoms can imagine they're in his place, and tops can imagine fucking him. My guess is, they've looked at videos to see which ones sold (back when you bought born), which ones rented the most, and (in the internet age) which ones got downloaded the most, which ones got pirated the most, and so forth. Porn's a business, and you can bet there are people out there measuring trends and advising their porn production clients about those trends.

I think this "market trend analysis" and the influence gay porn has on our tastes is a major contributor to the decline in casual gay sex. I've long observed that the porn playing in a gay sex venue has a huge influence on what guys do while they are there, I absolutely hate it when I'm in a club and they have suck, jack off or some fetish that doesn't involve fucking porn playing, because it puts a major damper on the sexual activities even in a city or venue that normal sees a lot of uninhibited fucking. The same is no doubt true about versatility, and applies to the general gay sex scene, not just a single venue. If we want more casual sex we either have to somehow encourage more men to become total tops, or get more versatile men to indulge in their versatility. I think there's a bit of a chicken-and-egg issue at play between "does gay porn influence casual sex behaviours" or "do casual sex behaviours dictate the demand for certain types of porn".  It's absolutely a case of economics; textbook supply and demand.  

It's definitely been mentioned in other threads, but the TIM Dawson films from almost 20 years ago (!) really did change both porn and orgies.  Every bottom wanted their Dawson moment, so many of the group parties on BBRT (or similar) were of the one bottom looking for multiple tops variety.  I've been to some of those as a top:  some were fun, some were okay, and some were just plain awkward.  There's been plenty of other videos since that follow that same formula - one bottom taking multiple "tops" over the course of a day or weekend.  They all sell (or get watched somehow) in great numbers...so more of these get made.

It's not easy to find a large number of guys who would be willing to do everything because we all have different fetishes. SOme guys don't like getting fucked or required condoms. Others like to get rimmed, but would never rim a hole. Most bottoms like to get fucked but would never fuck a hole.

I like what good saunas have to offer, private space of a room, cruising areas in hallways and other public space, cleaning areas and showers, and play areas with plenty of dark space and toys. And in this space everybody can try to enjoy whatever fetish they have.

I disagree, there are regions where what you say is true, but there doesn't tend to be much interest in group sex in those areas anyway. In cities that do have a lot of group sex, their are more functionally versatile guys and a lot more of those activities occur. 

Maybe it doesn't sell, but @muscmtl and I would love to see more porn that has that in it.

Yes and no here.  You're right to a degree, but even these saunas have their good and bad nights (I can vouch for a few cities in the US and Europe here).  Some nights I'd do and I'd practically be getting fucked like crazy.  Other nights I'd see a nice round ass and be all up in it for most of the night.  It was on the very odd occasion where I'd do both in one night - but in those cases, I'd be conscious of cumming too early in the evening - I'd be too tight to take more, and would need recouperation time (in my younger days) to work up for round 2.

I agree, sometime saunas are empty and not much going on. They used to be great places for sure sex before Apps. But what I meant is that at the sauna one can play the role you want and sometimes get lucky. My last time at Steamworks Toronto on the Thursday night I took 6 loads and then 5 on the Saturday night.
