Becoming a rent boy?

The OP's motivation for becoming a rentboy is... cute. He is (was) probably imaging a 'George Clooney' calling for a session. Reality is of course as others have acknowledged: there are tons of men, both tops and bottoms, willing to meet for free.

Being a rentboy these days is significantly different than in the '90s or noughties. What is being valued now above all is discretion and trust. Men who are in a relationship, can't get the dick or ass they want, or are in the public eye, and want a little bit on the side value discretion more than anything. Some will not give out any information or photo of themselves because they are afraid that the escort or rentboy will sue them for assault or some other made up reason, like 'he kissed me on the left cheek and I felt he overstepped his boundaries.' Even if a lawsuit is frivolous and dismissed, there is a lot of social backlash which can spread like wildfire. And in the matter of hours your life is destroyed because people will judge you even if they have no idea what is true and what is not.

So, these days, being a rentboy involves above all discretion and trust. Only novices would hire a rentboy by answering an advert. Most men who want the services of an escort will only go through referrals and friends' recommendations. There are tons of gay men in the public eye who cannot post their profile on Grindr or scruff or other app becuase they would be easily recognised and easy prey for stupid lawsuits. And there are a significant number of escorts, rentboys, or whatever you want to call them, who will not talk about their clients - never. They are the prized ones. And the vast majority of them are well-educated, speak at least two other languages in addition to their own mother tongue, are well travelled and mannered, and they are always invisible. The escort and rentboy code has changed a lot in the last ten years. The prices have gone up a lot. A trusted escort, be they top or bottom - doesn't matter, will easily make a six-figure income in a year. and that's in addition to expenses. The name of the game for the real-deal escorts is trust and discretion. Nobody hiring an escort wants to see themselves in the news for being sued for gay sex assault.

If the OP is still reading this thread, I would strongly advise that they question their real motivation for being a rentboy.

I will leave you with a soberring thought: even if you do get to be a rentboy, the older gentlemen who will be calling are likely to be of a less princely status and more of a regular and average older man who needs to pop the blue pill to stay hard for 10 min and who is definitely not interested in more than a shag.

Would becoming a rent boy be the best way of meeting older men?

I was a rentboy for most of my life and never once had a relationship with any man I met through it. It was what it was.

If you want a man for a relationship you should just pursue that when the opportunity arises just going through life.

I had a couple months relationship with a younger stripper I picked up in a  male strip club once and we moved in together. That's not the same as dating an escort though as I never paid for sex with him or anyone else.

Sex is easy to get (particularly for a top).  Discretion is not.

Many customers are not necessarily paying for sex. They are paying for silence.

Good rentboys keep every hole open for their client during their meeting and keep their mouth shut after the appointment.

I wonder if discretion is what the money actually buys. Discretion is only the by-product. What they’re really paying for is an ability to trust. When they engage the man for the clandestine services he provides, they are automatically compromising themselves. The only way they can do so without consequence is if the man who provides the service can be trusted not to betray them. A rentboy actually becomes invested with a great deal of potential power over the client, if he isn’t trustworthy.

This, of course, is the quandary. A rentboy, by definition, is a man who can be bought, whose motive is pecuniary. A risk is always present that the trust purchased can be outbid, or that the price demanded to maintain it will increase beyond the buyer’s ability or willingness to pay. When a rentboy tires of actively doing the things a rentboy must do in exchange for pay, he can stop and still find himself armed with a full arsenal of information to monetize by extortion. To my mind, finding men with the scruples to serve as rentboys and maintain that discretion on principle after that life ends must be as uncommon as finding service cumdumps like me who do what we do as a public service. Sure, most rentboys don’t end up extorting their clients, but I suspect it’s because most people are at least not evil, and blackmail would actually be kind of a pain in the ass.

But the frequency of actual blackmail is beside the point - the client will always be concerned that his dark secret will emerge, and thus he will always wonder not whether the rentboy will remain discreet, but whether he can trust him…and how much that is going to cost.

Living in Washington, DC, and running in to sex workers occasionally, I have heard stories of escorts officially signing NDA's for some of their clients. They are paid handsomely for it. But it's the classic case of those who have much to lose, go to great lengths to ensure that discretion.

Not real sure if those NDA's can be enforced but it could take a ton of money in legal fees to defend breaking an NDA. And any rentboy who blabs isn't going to stay in business long. And I'm sure those NDA's are written in a way that keeps any hint of prostitution out of it.

(NDA = Non-Disclosure Agreement. Legal way to keep someone's mouth shut or they can face severe consequences, $$$$$.)
