Syphilis - Advice?

Recommended Posts

Question. And please please don't think I'm stupid here. I'm not being ignorant. I'm really looking for information and it's hard to find this.

If I've potentially been infected by Syphilis from me receiving anal, does that mean I am infectious from my own penis if I decide to top?

Again I'm sorry. This probably sounds so stupid.

it's never stupid to ask a question about your health...

and yes you are very infectious until you have been treated with antibiotic injections and had a follow-up test to say you are clear. the syphilis antibodies will always be in your system though, so for any future sti testing you may show a false positive for syphilis and you will have to inform the clinic you have previously been exposed to syphilis so they know to run a RPR (rapid plasma reagin) test instead of a normal blood test. In the UK they advise that you get tested every three months from now on, if you have previously had Syphilis, to ensure you are not transmittable.

And definitely get treated. I didn't know I had syphilis until I was in stage 2 and had about 25 or so open sores pop up on me in about a month.  I was in terror as I thought something was eating me up. My regular doctor didn't run any STD tests but sent me to a specialist at Duke University where they found it was simply syphilis.  I kinda blame my regular Doc for not running STD tests but it was also my fault for not telling him I was going to Cumunion parties lol.

Remain abstinent for a week or two and get tested. There's an incubation period of about 20 days so you can entirely have it and test negative early on.

Your infectivity will depend on the stage of infection of the syph - i.e.

1) early - has it had time to colonize and multiply its viral load numbers in the first month or so? possible but still a low chance

2) Or if it's in stage 2, aside from the rash everyone gets, it's common to get oozing canchre sores as well. If it's on ur dick and oozing, yah id say thats more infectious

But yeah, dont procrastinate with syph or ignore it - no one will want to fuck you once it gets set up and starts progressively making you uglier and uglier with body bumps, lip sores, oozing sores on ur dick that dont heal, systemic inflammation causing hair loss, dry skin, acne and loss of ur gym gains. U also feel will like shit all the time. So yeah, get that shit cleared up asap. The penicillin butt shot sucks but it's the fastest and strongest option imo as doxy pep is like a week at least if it's early stage. If u had been using dox as a prophylactic tho, u would be able to top by day 3 without being infectious

don't worry about the penicillin injection, everyone says it hurts and yeah it is a big needle and it has to go into your bum cheek, but clinics in england usually use it mixed with an anaesthetic so you barely feel it, don't worry about that.

in context:

for a shot in a dr office, i was surprised how much it hurt

for something having to do w m2m sex: easy peasy

for annoyance: the 5 min of hurt was wayyyy better than the previous week+ of joint pain when i was infected

long story short, my advice: drop your pants, bend over and take it like a man: just like you probably did when you got infected 😜

thanks

still, the pain from the shot wasn't as annoying as the all night fever side effect.

but both better than the stress: just trying to hide my "trump hands" in public was ott

So what you're saying is that if it's my cock where the issue is then it's probably okay. Especially as my cock was not in play at all when i had this last bareback encounter. I received anal.

I'm definitely getting tested. Had a HIV test today which was negative.

Thank you. When you got tested, was it through the NHS? How long did it take to get the result? What happens with options for treatment when they tell you you had syphilis?

im interested to hear the answer to this.

im in the US and my biggest regret is not acting sooner. it was over the holidays and i didn't want to be judged. i tried going to a clinic but they wouldn't see me, so i ordered an online at home test which took forever and once the results did come not only had i lost valuable weeks but they also refused to treat me referring me to a specialist in my town anyways. by this time the secrecy and seclusion was sending me into a shame spiral so i confessed to my therapist who luckily referred me to planned parenthood.

they took me as a walk in. their confirmation test took a couple of days but given the online results coupled w my obvious advanced symptoms they recommended an immediate injection that day as the best treatment and i agreed.

as w all things medical, early detection and quick remedy are ideal.

wasn't the NHS, it was a local sti clinic (which does get funding from the NHs, so its free to patients, but it's not an NHS facility)

results were about a week, maybe ten days.

usually syph blood results are within two weeks at most.

its different for each clinic, but my clinic:

you get a text about 7 to 10 days after saying its negative.. OR you get a text saying your results are in and need to be discussed with you.. so you then phone up and tell the receptionist about the text and they either get a doctor to call you back to talk over the results or she will book you in for a treatment. occasionaly the doctor rings you with the results if its positive, and they can book you in for treatment over the phone and you just go along, get the prick, go home,,, and then do a follow up test a few weeks later to make sure it was enough penicilin to kil it all off...

the doc will talk to you about testing from then on, like i said earlier, the syph antibodies will show up in your blood for years now, maybe even your whole life. so if you get tested it will probably show positive even if its not, so you will always need to explain to any clinic that youve had syhpilis and need an rpr test not a regular blood test, so they know to look for it properly. also the doc will reccoment you get tested every three months from now on, instead of the usual six to twelve months

that's it, very simple and straight forward. i cant speak for your local clinic, but if you have a positive result and have symptoms then my clinic usually gets you in asap for treatment, sometimes the same day or the day after, but certainly within a week of getting your positive result.

i do sometimes do the home sti testing kits but i never do the blood ones, just urine and swabs (chlam and ghon etc), i can never get enough drop samples to fill a vial with a prick, so i never bother doing a syph/hiv by post test, but i get fully screened at the clinic every three months anyway, so the postal kids are just handy if its a while till my next appointment.

yeah, i do the clam/ghon/hiv home tests every 3 mo. the blood for the hiv screen can be a pain in the ass but it annoys me that they're not screening for syph too. now i gotta go to PP just for that instead of one stop testing.
