I think I just missed another opportunity. This hot, middle aged, “rough” looking Russian type guy, tats and all, was in the grocery store. Hot as fuck, he crunches  down to get something off the bottom shelf to reveal no underwear under his grey sweats. Beautiful ass. I mean they were damn near falling off. He had to see me staring. I was going to make a joke about cooking or something but I froze. Obviously he has no woman at home: he’s in the grocery store struggling buying bread with ill filling clothes.

You should have just said something non-sexual such as - this is a great shop isn't it - and then gauged his reaction.

This is an excellent topic. I wish I had some wisdom or tips and pointers to leave behind here - but sadly I find I am in the same boat. Clueless.

I am actually wondering how often this happens.  By "this" I mean spontaneous hooking up by a chance public encounter.

How often am I missing the signs? Or do I just need to be more bold, and "go for it"? I think I am too shy or not sure how to handle the awkwardness to 'go for it" but I need to figure it out, wink.

I think the problem is that you are overthinking it.  Just start a normal but very friendly conversation and see where it leads.

Let's be honest. "Public Signs of Interest" is not an exact Science. 

It works better in a bathhouse where showing interesting in someone can be more obvious.

I missed countless signals, but fortunately there were a few applicants who more clearly indicated that they were interested in me. I had an "action" with them, even if it was occasional.

Great topic.  One thing that I became aware of is that everyone feels the same way - that social queues are often unclear or confusing.  So, I take it upon myself to be a little more forward and clear.  Someone who is not interested most likely won't interpret your second look or a crotch-grab as anything other than a random movement.
