DaddyBare Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 I've had some kind suggestions about using a vpn to get round the imminent arrival of us uk users being prohibited from using BZ. I do have some questions about this option. First, I do actually use a vpn currently that comes with my virus protection software. It has problems: the BBC site detects it and refuses full access, moreover I am not allowed to enter BBrt at all using this vpn. Sadly all the particular vpn does is generalises the ISBN and makes it "London Greater in the uk" so no good for getting around the GB ban come July, So are their any free vpns out there that can be satisfactorily used? Do they just require downloading or do you pay for them indirectly by passing on valuable personal data? Quote
theplayerking Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 Nothing online is truly free and I wouldn’t trust a free VPN. They have to make money somewhere.  I subscribe to NordVPN through Apple, which anonymizes my subscription (NordVPN doesn’t even have my name or email address). Quote
Upfourall Posted April 7 Report Posted April 7 I use TOR browser to access BZ, works with or without a VPN. Quote
AirmaxUK Posted Tuesday at 09:35 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 09:35 PM I use NordVPN - it's good value for money and you can set your egress point to be in most cities in the world. I used the guide to VPN's that's in Wikipedia and rates them for privacy - Nord were pretty well rated and had a good offer if you bought 2 years up front, so I chose them, and have been using them for years. They also have specialist egress points for peer-to-peer torrent based file sharing apps as well as TOR. If anyone wants a referral code, send me a DM. As noted, when travelling abroad, BBC/ITV/etc sometimes won't work on one egress point, but Nord have loads in the UK, so pick another and I usually find one that works. 3 Quote
jd13 Posted Wednesday at 08:54 AM Report Posted Wednesday at 08:54 AM I appreciate all the advice here. Might get myself a VPN to continue accessing this site, but for me there is another issue, tangential to the whole VPN thing. I enjoy linking up with the global folks on here, particularly the Backroom and Last Load sections, but if its blocked in the UK, how many Brits are reasonably going to continue to access and find this site? One of the things I also enjoy is the possibility of linking up with local guys, and I'm not sure that many Brits are going to continue being on here after July. I realise this is an impossible question to answer, but you get what I mean. There'd just be a hardcore few. I'm wondering if it might be better to finally join NKP. Anyway, like I said: tangential to the main point of this thread, but yeah... Quote

Whats NKP? Quote

Whats NKP? Nasty Kink Pigs. I'm on Recon and all the rest, but as I understand it, NKP is a level up kinkwise. Haven't joined yet but prob will if I decide to let this place go (ie, decide not to use a VPN) once it's blocked here in the UK. Then again, if all this is due to legal changes, what other sites may end up getting blocked? Quote
SpectreAgent Posted Thursday at 09:04 AM Report Posted Thursday at 09:04 AM VPNs are the answer, I think. At least until they, too, are banned. And that was raised as a possibility by members of our present government when they were in opposition. Quote
PozBearWI Posted Thursday at 01:08 PM Report Posted Thursday at 01:08 PM The benefits of VPN isn't just to sidestep censorship. They protect you in ways unrelated to censorship. I was using VPN long before any of the site censorship became an issue. Quote

This is so true. I can’t imagine not having one when connecting to public WiFi. 1 Quote

Guest Bugnutty452 Posted Friday at 04:59 AM Report Posted Friday at 04:59 AM I use Proton VPN - free and easy. You can pay for the premium, but the basic works just fine. Quote

sluttony Posted Friday at 10:19 AM Report Posted Friday at 10:19 AM NordVPN is a good option and can have some good deals on from time to time but you are limited to something like 6 simultaneous concurrent device connections - usually enough for most people. It also has SOCKS 5 proxy servers for connecting e.g. BitTorrent clients (handy if you have a server always on to download them - not so much for most folks). Surfshark is a good option if you need more - it has unlimited simutlaneous connections. Both have loads of endpoints all over the world. Both claim to be non-logging. Quote
