  1. My experience -- your mileage may vary: In 2 years on PrEP I've had gonorrhea twice and syphilis once. They weren't fun, but easily treated. I feel better playing mostly with other guys on PrEP or poz guys under regular medical care -- since they're more likely to be tested every 3-6 months. But I'll admit sometimes it's hard to stay out of the sling at CumUnion and let a rando pump one into me. I'd be more concerned if sexually transmitted Hepatitis C starts to become more widespread. So far that's pretty rare but I'm keeping an eye on the news coverage.
  2. People have succeeded in getting PrEP covered as a military spouse. Check out the PrEP Facts Facebook page, which has 14,000 members. (It's a closed Facebook group -- your other Facebook friends won't see your activity). www.facebook.com/groups/PrEPFacts/
  3. The risk to bottoms is indeed significantly higher than to tops. Bottoming for an HIV+ top without condoms or PrEP carries about 1.4% chance of infection per fuck. On PrEP, this is reduced to 0.06%. For tops, the figures are 0.1% unprotected, 0.004 on PrEP. Not technically zero, but might as well be. See: https://wwwn.cdc.gov/hivrisk/estimator.html
  4. Very few people experience side effects for more than a few weeks. Anything beyond that, you should definitely discuss with your doctor. A good place to compare notes with other PrEP users about their experiences is the PrEP Facts Facebook group, with 14,000 members. (It's a closed group -- your other Facebook friends won't see your activity). www.facebook.com/groups/PrEPFacts
  5. I keep reading guys here saying "I wish I could get PrEP but it's not available where I live." But people all over the world are getting PrEP using generics -- which are safe, inexpensive and good quality. You can talk to PrEP users and find out more about how they've done it, by joining the Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PrEPFacts/ (It's a closed group -- your activity does not show on your timeline and your other Facebook friends can't see it).
  6. Where do you live? People everywhere in the world are getting PrEP. Low-cost generics are available online outside the US. It is not difficult, and far preferable to getting pozzed just out of a sense of resignation. There are PrEP users from many countries on this Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/PrEPFacts/ Just join and post a question asking who else is there from your country. (It's a closed group. Your other Facebook friends won't see any of your activity there). Or you can check out the FAQs without joining the group: https://www.facebook.com/PrEPFactsFAQ This one has some info about various countries: https://www.facebook.com/PrEPFactsFAQ/posts/750291218421408
  7. I've been on PrEP for 16 months, still neg, no side effects. For those with questions about PrEP, I highly recommend joining the Facebook group "PrEP Facts" (it's a private group -- your Facebook friends won't know you've joined or see your posts). It's based on science, not speculation or anecdotes (such as this thread is full of). It's full of smart guys and very open discussion. I still sometimes fantasize about getting pozzed but I'm very glad it's JUST fantasy now. Best decision I ever made.
  8. I think the hookup sites should add "neg, on PrEP" as a standard menu choice for status. And guys on PrEP should be open about it to educate people and clear up misconceptions. It may scare off some assholes in the short term, but ultimately guys who want to minimize their risk while BBing will start to realize that PrEPpies are a far safer bet than the self-identified neg guys.
  9. I'm still asking for condoms when I bottom, because I really want to stay neg until I get on PrEP. But I'm finding it increasingly difficult to use condoms when topping, and I sometimes feel guilty about that, especially with younger or married guys. I would suggest to raw bottoms to look for tops who are poz undetectable or guys on PrEP -- especially if they have wives who they're putting at risk.
  10. Teens are not adults -- their brains are not fully formed, especially in areas like judgment. I sure took a lot of stupid risks in my teens, involving things like alcohol and reckless driving. My parents and teachers did their best to help guide me through those hazards safely. But the straight world is never going to offer young gay men that kind of guidance in their sexuality, so it's up to gay adults to set a responsible example. It's probably too much to ask Michael Lucas, Sean Cody & co. to be moral exemplars, but it's also naive to suggest that their films have no effect on young men's risk-taking. Young viewers are unlikely to understand that porn actors have access to special measures like PCR testing and PrEP -- all they see is healthy young guys their age or just a little older fucking raw.
  11. You can partially abandon condoms and still have them as one tool in your box when they are the most rational option. I don't worry about them when playing with poz undetectable guys but until I get on PrEP I plan to still use them when warranted (when bottoming for guys with unknown status). Sure, BB feels better but I make the judgment whether it's worth the risk on a case-by-case basis. It doesn't have to be all or nothing. And soon I'll be on PrEP and can take those delicious loads without worry!
  12. Mmm hmm. I think maybe the pun is a little too subtle. Admittedly I am new to this forum and don't know how much of what's on here is just fantasy and trash-talking, but the degree of cheerleading pushing young guys, who really have no idea what they're getting into, to get pozzed as if it's the greatest thing on earth is disturbing. The poz guys I know (admittedly they are 30+) have had a rough ride of it. Maybe it's all good fun in your 20s, but it's really not something to make light of. I am thankful that what I've read on here so far, especially the honest posts by guys who have been poz for a long time, have helped me make my choice: it's PrEP for me, and I hope more users on this site will help educate younger guys to look into it.
  13. (sorry, hit send too soon by accident) *raw bottom sluts a couple of years ago, but PrEP is a real gamechanger. I understand the thrill of chasing, but it's not something to urge everyone to do.
  14. Hey JizzDumpWI, I really appreciate your common-sense advice including about PrEP, which I am now seriously looking into. Just curious why you still have your tagline ("It takes breeding to achieve a positive result") which seems to be encouraging/celebrating conversion. That might have been the only option for raw bottom slits
