    Have been thinking about this since reading the Tearoom Trade - except for Hampstead heath, I can't think of any UK places that are remotely as busy as described. Activity on squirt.org seemed to suggest the British Library in Euston was the most active spot, and worth a visit. I've been a few times and never encountered anything. I wonder if UK tearooms/cottages have been made extinct by online apps? Anyone know of anywhere (uk) that's busy? I also think that all the tearooms/cottages have succumbed to CCTV etc. There are a few spots around of cruisey woodlands but even these are falling foul of surveillance. Bottrell's lane near Amersham has a trailer parked up with a pole and an array of cameras, ANPR and motion detectors, which has been there for about six months now monitoring the comings and goings. (Takes me back to the 90's when local police would take down number plates of cars at the local gay pubs and clubs (The Greyhound in Colnbrook in particular) to match them up with cars found parked in cruising spots.)

    I tend to use Romeo when travelling to mainland Europe - typically for me FR/BE/NL/DE/CZ/PL where it seems to be the go-to app most people use. It's good enough that I don't mind paying for the subscription and the search tools are very good. Many profiles are written in non-english so it helps to know local terms and slang for what you're looking for. On my Mac/iPhone it is easy to online translate but no guarantee that someone will understand if you message them! In the UK it isn't so popular - its just about okay in very big cities.

    I use NordVPN - just checked it and I it still works - I logged out, connected to VPN (UK Server #1918) and was able to log in and use BBRT without issue. I tried again with other servers and it worked fine. Probably logging out before connecting to the VPN might be a good idea. Likely also keeping in the same country helps too. I note that Microsoft locks me out of my online accounts and makes me re-verify them if my IP address changes country, which is a pain when travelling. Some VPN providers and servers are banned because they attract misuse. NordVPN seems to be fine for me.

    Xmas Eve: just got back from the sauna. Was kinda quiet but sometimes that pays off... I had hopes for having fun with a guy who had a scorpion tattoo on his back just above his butt... but it wasn't to be. Instead I got cruised by a really nice rugby build guy - muscular but with soft edges. We started off upstairs in one sling and then the other, which was more comfortable for him as it was less high. We switched locations and fucked in the gym, the darkroom, and the jacuzzi-spa. I'm not quiet when getting railed, so we drew a small crowd each time. He had tons of stamina and I was glad of a short break each time we switched locations. Since it was getting close to closing time (7pm since it was xmas eve) we went upstairs to the sling again for a grand finale. After he finished (second load from him) I stayed in the sling for a while hoping others who hadn't dropped their loads already might want to do so before closing. Put the towel over my face so I couldn't see and stayed a while to see what happens. Not long before I felt probing fingers and then a cock. Decided not to peek and let things happen... it could have been any one of about five or six guys who were left. Whoever it was didn't last long, which I was grateful for as the previous guy had been unrelenting and I was a bit sore. Now I'm home and looking back it is very horny thought that I'll never know who that was. Anon can mean just not knowing who they are but not seeing them at all is a whole new level and one I plan to revisit.

    Past few years I've done NYE in Berlin. I don't do the big parties - I just stuck around Motzstrasse and Fuggerstrasse. The bars with darkrooms don't really get going until after midnight, and some are still busy until lunchtime on new year's day. New years day a lot of stuff is closed, so Connection is usually very good - it's a good setup.

    I went to Sheffield in early 2023 for CumUnion and it was not worth the journey - the sauna did nothing to promote it as a CumUnion event and it seemed like just a regular evening. They didn't make any effort to play bareback porn on the TVs and people I spoke to there didn't know about CumUnion. Similar experience in Northwich - the CumUnion event coincided with their naked event and they were pushing that and there was no mention of CumUnion at the venue. I've not been since as it's not worth the drive up anymore.

    Never heard of MachoBB. IMO, you can't stick to one app: Which app is 'best' depends where you are as different countries seem to favour different apps. Some work better in cities and some work better out in the sticks. Which is best depends on what you're looking for too. The bigger apps can have a higher percentage of time wasters. I've pretty much given up on them all, except to keep contact with people I meet - and found that going in person to a cruising spot, sauna, bar or club yields consistent success, whereas the apps - and the guys on them - were awful.

    SOP in London is my local haunt. There are plenty of posts on here describing what goes on and what it's like. I think the big thing is how it is such a relaxed and attitude free place you can really enjoy. It's also very diverse in terms of the kinds of guys there and the gear being worn - from naked to full-rubber and hivis work gear. I've even seen someone wearing a fur coat there. Sundays with a bank holiday Monday afterwards are usually very busy, but often the best parties are the quieter ones when it's not overrun with tourists. I've also done lab a few times and my impression is that 80% of the guys aren't into piss and are just there for whatever. I've often felt that when lab put on specialist themes, it's always mostly the same guys just in a different colour jockstrap.

    Here's a thought: maybe some people are misrepresenting themselves by using older pics or having some (to put it mildly) artistic license with their stats. That's likely why a lot of people ghost - because they would otherwise be found out to be different from what they claimed. It seems a common behaviour - so I ask what motivates that? My answer is that advertising, porn, and gay culture shows us images that are not a reflection of how many of us really are Do people then try to live up to these images and expectations by exaggerating aspects of their profiles? This further perpetuates that 'image' and it becomes a vicious circle. Images are beginning to change but I think it's an 80/20 thing where 80% of us aren't like the images we see in the gay media. And yet 80% of gay media is pushing that image. It's not healthy and I think what we see with people's behaviour in the apps is just a symptom of that.

    I'd say you also need to have a clear policy on phones and cameras. You have to ban them outright or make everyone aware they're permitted. The halfway solution of 'only film if you ask permission first' or 'phone allowed but no photos/videos' never works - someone always tries to get away with a few surreptitious photos or video when they think nobody will notice.

    I've been there on my trips to Berlin. I usually only go to Woof if there is a special event there during BLF or Folsom. Sometimes the gay skin-heads have their event there. So my opinion may be skewed by this. It's a bear's bar, and it seems more friendly social and not as full-on cruisey and seedy as Scheune or The Bull, and not as fetishy as Scheune or New Action. On the nights I've been the darkroom has been quiet relative to other venues. I get the impression you pickup in the bar rather than going out back to find someone. On occasions I've been they have been alternating between episodes of The Muppet Show and some vanilla porn on the screens - which is quirky. If you go on a normal night then you may have a slightly different experience. There are loads of bars in the area - and it pays to explore. If you're a bear (or like bears) you don't have to go to Woof to have a good time. There's lot of other options.

    Actually it's not that bad - guys drink a lot of water/beer so it's all really diluted. There is only a smell if you don't wash your gear out and leave it. Take a change of clothes/shoes, a small towel, a bag to put anything wet in (they will give you one if you ask) and if you're really paranoid, a can of Lynx/Axe (but please use it outside the venue). I've been going for a long time and have to take uber, train and bus to get there. Never had a comment or bad uber rating on the way home.

    Speaking as someone who's quite introverted - perhaps as a result of being slightly 'on the spectrum', one of the most difficult things is eye contact. If someone I don't know well makes eye contact with me then it makes me feel really uncomfortable - even if I like them. Similarly I struggle with making eye contact - either across a room or in conversation. I'll tend to look at their sneakers, an item of clothing they're wearing, a tattoo, or something else instead.

    I realise this is too late, but I'd go. You can host in your hotel anytime and most guys into raw fucking will be at biohazardmen anyway. Have a plan B - if it sucks, go somewhere else... there's tons of choice. Did you go? How was it?
