    I'll add my "good call" comment. I've always wondered how anyone can find STIs hot.     I have to be in Nottingham either later this week or next (probably this) and normally I'd stay at the Britannia.     Is there any scale of severity? Is it handled with say a dropdown box or is it at the whim of the admin / mod? I picked up 7 points, a 3 day ban and a 10 day restriction from posting for posting in the wrong area, which seemed very harsh for a first time offence (at least I dont recall ever picking up points previously). And while I accept what I did was silly, it was done with no malice or intent and although not a regular poster, I've tried to be a well-behaved one over the years. By the time I could ask about it privately, I'd served the bans so kind of pointless by then, doing anything other than sucking it up, hence my suggestion why it would be useful to be able to at least PM the admin or mod who issued the ban.

    I do like the idea of a credit/debit and escalator (points reducing over time) system- it strikes me as a way to not be over-strict if a user who has been otherwise well behaved makes a simple error of posting in the wrong area... new user with no credit could be hit harder than a regular who has a better reputation. The ability to be able to respond to the admin who gave the punishment would be useful.

    I only know of two sites that implement this - here and Ebay. Obviously, I dont browse sites like this on my corporate machine, but to date the -only- one that throws the above error is, as I say, Ebay.

    Until the ISPs are forced to use a MITM "bluecoat*" type of proxy. I have a VPN router. Anything even vaguely "wrong" (using that very loosely) uses that as a gateway. Everything is encrypted and the VPN DNS servers are DoH by default to stop DNS leakage. Also have a pi-hole to shut down advertising etc. and I have noscript and ghostery etc on my browser of choice. You're right though- it failed because, like the dumb attempts to force a "legal backdoor" into encryption technologies, it is flawed ideas being constructed by people who dont understand the technology of what they're talking about. *other vendors are available 😉

    I guess it also plays into your recent changes around user ranks and restrictions - is there any way to implement a system where the level of seniority is made up of time here as well as post count/quality? I'm thinking more along the lines of infractions where your time here can reduce the severity, say?

    Hi RT... to sort of continue our PMs for me, it seems that it can feel a bit heavy handed, as you said. I posted in the wrong area of the site and accept fully that was a mistake (as you said, I just didn't think and there was no malice). The points - fair enough but I also received a 3 day ban and a 7 or 10 (I forget) block on posting which, as I say, seemed a bit excessive. But I think it felt worse because I couldn't contact a moderator for that entire time, either, and that is the bit that stung. So if there was a way to implement an escalator system (again for a first offense it seemed OTT) rather than an instant ban hammer being dropped and if it was at least made possible to communicate with admins (also a double edged blade, I know, because there will be idiots that use it to hurl abuse) and some system in place to allow an apology etc. It would feel less... extreme.

    As a brit, I've never seen the government's attempts to block access to porn as just that. It is absolutely about controlling information, generally. A few years ago, as my fellow Britons will remember, we had quite a large political scandal around members of parliament and their expenses - we had some pretty hard core fraud happening. I've always maintained that if there was a "porn filter" that it would soon be used to hide information such as the above. And from there, there's nothing stopping us emulating the great firewall of China. It's a downhill slope.

    Honestly, having administered a few forums over the years, I can say first hand that trying to deal with the idiot spammers and malware link generators rapidly becomes a full time job and is actually enough to cause many and admin to give up. It's a technological arms race that you always lose, and so ultimately the only real way to stay on top is patching (which can also be an almost full time job in itself) and restricting what new users can do. And when you do the latter on an already established site, it always causes a small amount of pain and complaints, but I am all for it, personally because it will free up Rawtop and the admins to do more of what they want to do and will help to protect the community... and I'm sure no one here wants him to throw up his arms and give up. Thanks for all you do. I know it's a ton of work.

    I've been to Sheffield, Mansfield and Manchester. Sheffield is very hit and miss - I've had 11 loads and I've struggled to get a single load. Numbers definitely dropped off when they went to every couple of weeks rather than monthly. Numbers dropped again when they took the doors off the gloryholes. The last couple of times though, over the summer, things seemed busier again. Definitely not back up to the old levels of guys though. Mansfield was reasonably, if not massively, busy but it felt very much like too many guys waiting for the perfect, ideal, man. The action was very sporadic. The place is cold and the layout doesn't lend itself to cruising- too many steps and trip hazards. Plus it has a run down, less than clean feel about the place. Manchester was dismal. There were three people including myself. I got one cock whilst in the sling and I'd hope it was just a bad night but the logistics of getting to, and staying in, Manchester just mean it is too expensive to keep trying. Hope this helps a bit.
