As usual, when I see posts like these, I am relieved to live in the UK. We do have pretty strict conditions on the new employment and support allowance, and I only know one guy who is eligible for that in relation to HIV, as he'd developed AIDS in the early 1990s, but with all treatments, tests, medication etc being free, there's a lot less to be worried about than in the US.

No, not particularly, because I can't see any situation where I would end up getting AIDS... HIV sure, with my sexual behaviour, unless I have the CCR5-delta32 mutation, I will probably inevitably get HIV. But I'm not scared of that happening either, I know I will probably have to make some lifestyle changes, but ironically it'll probably spur me into eating healthier and exercising more, something I can never really be bothered with currently. Obviously, I also have the advantage of living in the UK, and therefore not having to be concerned about medical insurance or cost of drugs as I know that any drugs I'd ever need related to HIV treatment will be free.

I agree with a lot of what you said, that thread rather got out of hand and people, including myself, were commenting on it before further details of the case had been made clear. I do think personal responsibility and taking responsibility for your actions is a major part of barebacking, and that the vast majority of 15 year olds are able to take on that responsibility, regardless of whether the law says it is 14, 16, 18, 21 or illegal. That really comes down to age of consent, which is just another societal construct and doesn't really make a whole lot of sense, although I personally would never sleep with an under 16, partly because of the law but also because I prefer guys in their 20s and 30s. On the point of stealthing, I would say that there's a big difference between just not mentioning your status and lying about your status. Not mentioning is something that occurs between both partners in a sexual act, the negative guy should ask just as much as the positive guy should, if neither do, there is an implicit agreement that it's not important. However, if one or the other asks, then an honest answer should be expected from both, if not, that's a serious betrayal of trust. Do I think HIV-transmission is attempted murder? No, do I think not mentioning your status should be punishable? No, do I think lying about your status in order to attempt to spread HIV is wrong? Yes, you then reach a point of what sort of punishment, and I run into serious difficulties here, if transmission doesn't occur, I struggle to see any provable criminal intent, if it does occur, then I guess it would be some sort of assault charge, an attempted murder charge in a Western country is just ridiculous.

I've used poppers (and other things), I can take them or leave them, I do dispair at the guys who a chem session is the only type of session they can do, but it can add to a session sometimes, as something a little different. I prefer to know a guy's status, partly because I quite like taking poz loads, it's hot, but also because I can keep track of my likely exposure risk, and visit the GUM clinic more frequently if I think my risk level has been particularly high, but I only bother asking with online meets, after a few drinks at the end of the night, all I'm interested in is getting a load in my arse after all. I always find the "it's wrong because it's illegal" argument very bizarre, especially when we're talking about age of consent, if one person is exactly 16years 0days old has sex with someone 15years 364days old (i.e. 1 day younger), that is theoretically illegal. A 15 year old sure as hell can consent to sex, I remember being 15 and consenting to sex, just because the law says they can't, doesn't make it factually true. A government could pass a law saying the sky was pink, but it wouldn't change anything. The law is not infallible. And try judging the age of people between approx 14-18, it's actually quite difficult because a lot of changes happen during those ages physically and even if you're just slightly ahead of the curve, you can easily look a full year or more older. If he's from one of those crazy backwards areas of the USA with abstinence only Sex Ed (thought that was always an urban myth from your country and not actually for real!), then I do feel sorry for him, that's still not the fault of the other guy though, that's a failing of society and the state.
