What do "retired" porn stars do?

I am wondering. When you appear in gay adult movies, there are just so many years when you are popular. After a few years you are no longer the hot guy, but overexposed and you are no longer asked so much for another movie. After that I suppose you can go on as an escort for a few years. But after that, what?

Does any one know what these guys do after everything dries up, so to speak? Some may have an education, but (I think) many don't, unless I am totally wrong). What will they be doing with the rest of their lives?

I am in Europe, never met a pornstar, but I know some of the members here (usually in the USA) have.

Well, I live in Ft Lauderdale , where it seems all the boys retire to after the semen screen. In a bad impression of a top ten list, here is my impression of ex porn star careers here:

10 Yard care specialist

09 Pool care specialists

08 dog walker/pet sitter

07 sales clerk, Macys

06 sales clerk, sex store

05 airline job- flight mattress or for the butcher guys, ramp agents

04 waiter, probably a gay focused restaurant ( and generally tied in to a gay bar too)

03 escort

02 bartender- if still hard and fit one of the trendy bars,if softer, one of the piano bars more popular with the retirees

and the number one career post porn.................................................

01 "massage therapy , with complete muscle release- $50 extra for outcalls <g>

If anyone ahs any other input, feel free to update ! LOL

Porn is only a "long-term" job for very few people. Even then, its not exactly going to be money that could support you for the rest of your life when you stop doing it.

And think about it, the vast majority only do one or two movies. How many guys have you see in T.I.M. movies (especially tops gangbangs) that you never see in porn again? So most must go back to some normal jobs.

But I do agree with above, those jobs aren't necessarily going to be great. Especially if you're a well known porn star. It would be too hard to cover up your past. And realistically, employers aren't going to want someone who's well known for taking loads from strangers on camera representing their company are they?

Take the porn star Collin O'Neal, who became a substitute teacher when he stopped doing porn. The only reason I know that is because it made international news when the school found out about his porn past and sacked him because of it.

The decision was eventually overturned when he appealed; but just goes to show -people will find out sooner or later.

Take a look at this - http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2011/08/porn_stars_fired_day_jobs.php - 8 other porn stars who were fired when their porn career was found out. Gives you an idea of what sort of jobs they were doing when they retired.

Well I am not sure if 4 million views on xtube counts or a half million on a blog in a year makes me qualify but I'm an artist and not the first one to delve into this very personal form of the "self portrait". Jeff Koons did porn with his wife in his early years and Andy Warhol has made numerous sex films including a 34 minute film called "Blow Job" that is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art.

More recently Dawson held a responsible position throughout his notorious years as TIM's star power bottom. Lito Cruz snapped at me once in Ft Lauderdale when I referred to his "career" in conversation. He set me straight by informing me he had graduated from UCLA with no debt because of his work in porn and that he does it now for fun. He also corrected me saying that his profession was that of a Spanish Court Interpreter. Mark Dylan seems to be doing well with his website and videos and investing it in the stock market. Not all performers/artists are stupid. As with any group of people, some are really stupid. I may be well one of them.

If you jerk of to porn, amateur or pro, you should not criticize those who get you off at night.

As in all situations, it is not wise to generalize and categorize those of us who put ourselves out their for your gratification. Oh I get off on knowing my videos and stories make men cum, so it's a complete circle. Not sure where this is going, but I'm having a blast. Life is not about the destination, it's about the journey. What a cliche, but true.

I don't have any first-hand knowledge, but I would expect it to be some combination of all the above. Your average performer might only appear in a few, and they're just normal guys who already have a day job. If they are really successful and get well known for doing a lot of them, I'd guess it would be similar to an athlete whose career has a 'shelf life'. Some go into something totally different (I know of one former athlete that has a successful car dealership), and some go into management or some other non-on-screen/field position (think of all the coaches and sports commentators who used to be athletes). It wouldn't surprise me if the porn industry had a large number of former porn 'stars' behind the scenes.

That's my impression at least. Interested to hear from anyone that knows statistics first-hand.

Thank you, TigerMilner, for an important perspective on the true diversity of porn actors. And thank you, bb1991, for the link about "life after" porn. I'm personally disgusted by the fate of Kurt Wild, who was working in a fucking Subway to support his family, and some creepy customer recognized Wild and demanded he be fired! How do you recognize a porn star if you don't watch porn? For me, the real issue is that any sort of sex work is deemed immoral because of the pervasive puritanism in the US and elsewhere. There is nothing wrong with doing porn. There is nothing wrong with being an escort, prostitute or whore. There is nothing wrong with making a living from any sort of sexual activity. I am sure a lot of former porn stars go on to be entrepreneurs in many different capacities.

I would say porn is almost never a long-term career. In fact I'd go as far as saying it's only a full-time job for a very few people. Most guys in porn just do it on the side for some fun and a little extra money. Or full-time escorts do it as publicity. About the closest porn gets to be a long-term job is when when a porn star becomes a producer.
