Are you happy with your current hookup sites?

This morning I met with a guy from the industry who asked me if I wanted to start up a hookup site. I've thought about it in the past, but not sure I really want to compete with BarebackRT.com. I really like the guy behind it and it's got critical mass and nothing terribly wrong with it.

So I'm wondering what you guys think about the hookup sites you use? Do you like them? Do you wish you had other options?

If I did one it would be based on the Adam4Adam model - free with advertising on the pages and a small paid upgrade for things like a bigger friends list and longer mailbox storage. I'm also thinking in terms of a network of sites like Recon does but different... There's an opportunity I see to bring a bunch of niche users into the network quickly and sorta prime the pump quickly, but it would take a lot of programming (and $$) to get it off the ground...

Please do more than just answer the poll - tell me your thoughts on the different sites and whether you wish there was something different and if so, what would make that site better...

BBRT is the only decent site out there. BB.com is dead, has a lot of bugs, and isn't very user-friendly, so I deleted my account.

So those of you who said they don't like their current hookup sites, what features would make you like something else more?

It's not really the sites, although I don't like what is out there. Its the pople. Most seem to be playing games mostly and not really serious about hooking up. Those that do want to hook up want looks over talent and substance. I just got to the point that I don't even look at someones profile if they use "GL" or "VGL". They want Brad Pitt or Tom Cruise or nothing.

The biggest problem I have is not with the sites themselves but the guys on them...too many flakes, too many guys who can't be bothered to respond with a "no thanks" if not interested, too many out-of-date pics (or no pics at all).

If I were designing a hookup site from scratch, I'd bring together a few things that I like from a bunch of sites.

• Advanced searching (BBRTS and A4A do this pretty well) - for example, Manhunt's search capabilities suck
  
• The ability for other guys to leave public reviews (obviously allowing the original guy to respond and the management to delete reviews that are out of line) like rateurtrick.com
  
• I love the idea of the GPS/hookup site thing that Grindr does...looking forward to seeing that on my bberry (which is supposedly coming soon).
  

I'm not sure if I'd go for a specialized theme and try to attract a niche (only barebackers, only leathermen, whatever). I kind of like to see all of the options out there. And lots of guys might not go to a specialized site but be interested in what you're into anyway.

I can't count the number of guys who've hit me up for bb sex online, when their profile says "DDF safe only," even after I tell them flat out I'm poz and only fuck raw. They usually don't hang out on places like BBRTS, even though it's pretty clear they like barebacking.

Finally, I guess I'd ideally prefer to have an established site add to or improve their offerings rather than seeing something completely new start from scratch. I don't want to have to add another site to my regular cruising grounds!

I like the open-ness of this forum, i think it helps guys to be honest and not feel put down or degraded or that they need to lie. After all WHO doesn't have an opinion??? Just like an asshole we all have one. LOL (hopefully a cum fillied one) That being said, why cant this site be joined with the owners of barebackrt.com............and even though barebackrt is a good site for hookups there is no forums like breedzingzone, companies merge all the time. Im usually on both sites simultaneously. One for reading posts and the other for hooking up.

Like the above posts suggest doing an A4A like site as well is a good idea. I myself think there is way to many gay sites out there. And everyones got theor own thing they are into. If gays would come together, no matter our differences. It would help build a stronger gay community -localy, statewide, and nationwide.

I think,given some time,this forum itself has the potential to evolve into something far greater than it is now. It's foundation would be what it is at this point now. A place to express views,desires,and above all-a friendly site that we can all support each other with.

rawTops forum has certainly been a success so far,and seems to be a friendly site. He takes very seriously,that everyone is treated with decency and respect. Not only are their discussion forums,but this site is also informative in many ways.

Eventually,with a growing database,more features will hopefully develop which will lead to easier communication(chat),and ways for the guys to hook-up with for sex-individually,in a group,or whatever.

But whatever is in store for this site,it will only happen with our support and input.

You could create forums of your own on BBRTS if you were so inclined. Another option would be to provide links to other BB oriented sites for cross-promotion purposes (like to this forum, this and other sex blogs, sites that carry your porn, etc.

If you wanted to be more adventurous, you could make membership in this forum an "opt-in" option on your site. That would give your users control over who their login information is shared with.

Personally, I am not happy with the current hookup sites. The one that most applies to me is barebackbears but there really aren't a lot of guys on it and especially not a lot of guys in Chicago. And the guys that are there seem very vanilla to me. And that's saying a lot because I don't consider myself all that kinky.

I think that's a problem you get when a hookup site gets too specialized. Bears are one subset of the gay community. Guys who openly bareback are a (probably smaller) subset. The intersection between the two is going to be pretty limited. Add in kink, and you're probably looking at just a handful of good candidates, even in a big city like Chicago.

I could see a successful porn site being run with guys who are into bears and barebacking. A successful and worthwhile hookup site is a bit tougher.
