Crazy people on hookup websites

Hello there,

created this thread after a quite unpleasant experience happened recently, and wondering if it's something becoming more and more like the norm these days.

Yesterday I moved my gayromeo profile's location to Berlin, as I'm going there in a short while. Clicking around and looking at the guys (there's no shortage of hot as hell guys over there), doing my things, no writing to anyone as I'm not there yet. After a few minutes I noticed a guy has left me the infamous "stop bugging me" footprint, also blocked me.

I have never see the guy in my life and cannot imagine what the hell is the reason, as I've not been in Berlin for more than three years. Maybe I was mistaken for someone else? Maybe someone in Berlin is using my pics and behaves as an asshole to everybody? Maybe he's just fucked up?

Generally speaking, it was a tiny episode with no further outcome. I couldn't however stop thinking about how the guys out there seem to become more and more strange, as if there was some kind of detachment from reality and any norm of socially acceptable behavior.

Day after day, there are more and more people who are simply unable to accept no as answer. I no longer write back when not interested, as being honest about it is the best way of being abused or, in the worst case, finding a new stalker. My hometown (gay desert) is full of idiots, timewasters and people with no pictures playing mindgames on everyone. Hookups have become almost impossible and I find myself having more sex during a single holiday rather than an entire month home.

What is your opinion on this?

Just google 'online civility' and pages of results will display. It is one of the downsides I suppose resulting from the anonymity of the web. Added to this the web has somewhat replaced bars. Live meeting gave wonderful opportunities to interact with people without the filter of a profile. Now one can choose online for the specific type one imagines they want.

Sounds kinda like NYC to me. A million guys online on BBRT and A4A, yet it seems like the experience of actually talking to someone is rare, instead you'll probably just be "oinked" at left and right or have a hundred guys unlock pics for you out of the blue and never message you back if you message them that you like their pics. It blows my mind. Biggest city in the country, huge gay population, tons of guys on these sites and it just seems like everyone wants to play games and never actually hook up. And when you actually do talk to a guy, the littlest thing will make him flake- he can only host for another 18 minutes, he can't travel that far on the subway, etc.

And in case anyone wants to tell me that I have nothing to compare NYC to, well, when I was in Barcelona last year, I hooked up twice in three days EASILY, could have hooked up more if I wanted to. Dudes were actually serious about hooking up. Also, the last time I was in Chicago, I was getting hit up left and right on BBRT with guys that were actually serious about meeting. I hooked up a few times and it was great, but given the rate at which guys were hitting me up with legit messages (yes, actual messages and not "oinks" or "member has unlocked pics for you, but has no interest in actually meeting you"), I probably could have spent my entire week in Chicago hooking up if I wanted to.

I will never understand what it is about hooking up in NYC that is so difficult. Does anyone else seem to have this problem?

There are sadly those who don't know common sense either online or off. Like I have this guy that I met went over to his place we hunt out watched porn together a couple of times. Then he disappeared from BBRT where we had met for like 6 months. When he reappeared I sent him a message saying "hey how are things" instead of replying he blocked me. Baffled me I was like what did I do. So I just wrote him off but then I see the ther day he had unblocked me. But I am done he obviously has his own issues and I don't have time for the games. People like that person who you never talked who blocked you usually have thier own issues either they are mentally not all there, on drugs, or whatever and I just figurer at least I learned to avoid them before having wasted any time actually trying to get to know them.
