Part 22 - Face to Face With Sage

The bright daylight dazzled Daniel in the eyes and his body was dragged out of the trunk, he collapsed in to Sage's arms that secured him around the waist tightly, his body pushed up against the side of the car until he was face to face with Sage. The traffic began backing up quickly as the first two police cars arrived on the scene and began cordoning off the area and moving the spectators back. There was no movement from the overturned car as the first cop went over and looked inside. The first responders now on the scene began attending one using a thermal camera to check for hot spots and potential danger called the fire rescue over and pointed to the trunk of the overturned car, suddenly all focus was on this area of the car.

It was some 20 minutes before the ferrari and BMW came a halt caught up in the traffic backlog with no way of turning off, the traffic slowly moving on as a cop was diverting traffic off the boulevard. Kit wound down his window asking what was going on, the cop approached and told them there was an accident at the intersection and nothing is getting past at the moment. Jordan began to panic at this news he had a sense of foreboding and knew it must have been Sage's car. Kit held on to Jordan telling him to remain calm, he explained the situation to the cop who nodded and let the two cars through. There were 10 police cars and first responders at the scene. Jordan got out of the Ferrari as David approached grabbing Jordan and holding on to him whilst they looked on in disbelief and shock. The trunk of the car had been completely cut apart and Jordan stood fixated looking at the mangled wreckage of the trunk. A cop watched the group and approached asking if they knew the owner of the car, Jordan nodded in silence. The cop explained that they would need to go to the local ER to meet Sargent Hillson who is co-ordinating, he apologised saying he couldn't shed any more detail. Kit called Nicky to tell them to meet at the Santa Monica Emergency Room, Jordan remained quiet in his stunned state never in a million years did he think that Sage would go to such lengths.

Part 23 - Reflection

They sat huddled around in the ER waiting for Hillson to return and tell them what was going on, Nicky, Lucy, Steve and Callum arrived and joined them. Lucy was sat with Jordan holding his hand as they comforted each other between sobs of sadness and the unknowing of what was going on.

"I knew coming here would be bad, I felt it when the plane landed" Jordan said looking at Lucy.
Lucy shook her head "Your not to blame Jordan, he seemed to know what he was doing and got to us through Kit".
Jordan wiped his eyes "I never thought he would go to such extremes to get back at me".
She put her arm around Jordan as Kit walked up "Have they said anything yet?" She asked looking at Kit.
He shook his head "No, he said 15 minutes and he will come in and talk to us. I feel so responsible for being taken in by him".
Jordan looked up at Kit "Your not responsible Kit, he knew what he was doing somehow".

The door opened and everyone turned as Mario walked in confused at seeing such a large crowd of people starring at him. Jordan stood up and went over to where Mario stood.

"I'm so sorry for what you have been put through Mario" he said hugging his friend.
Mario cried in his arms "I really fucked up this time, I let myself get abused by him Jordan and couldn't stop it".
Jordan stroked Mario's head "He is evil Mario I know that now but like you I couldn't see it at the time".

Hillson walked in to the room and looked around at everyone, Kit had enough of this waiting around game and demanded to know what was going on and why they weren't telling them anything, Hillson raised his hand.

"Please I am sorry it is taking so long, but we don't know the identity of the persons involved" Hillson began to explain.
Jordan looked at him "The driver is Sage Peters and he kidnapped my partner Daniel Salinger".
"Where is our son?" Lucy strode over to Hillson followed by David.
"Sage was cut free from the car and is in ICU responding to treatment, who is Sage's kin?" Hillson asked.
Mario looked "I guess I am closest of sort".
"The nurse here will take you to see Sage" Hillson said and the nurse escorted Mario out of the room.
"Are you all Daniel's family and friends?" he asked.
Lucy let out a sob fearing the worst "Yes we are".
"Daniel has bruising and some cuts but otherwise seems to be okay and is being examined as we speak" he told the waiting group.

Relief strewn across their faces and the door opened to the visitors room the doctor asking for Jordan, Lucy and David as Daniel wanted to see them. The doctor stopped before they went in to the room and told them that Daniel will have to stay in overnight for observation and then rest for a week to allow the bruising to heal. They entered the ER cubicle to find Daniel laying in bed dazed and a little confused sporting a cut on his forehead and bruising on his arms.

Jordan shook his head "I'm so sorry Danny" as he broke down in tears, David went round and put his arm around Jordan.
Daniel shifted in bed "He would have got to me eventually Jordy".
"Did he hurt you?" Jordan wiped the tears from his eyes.
"No not really a few bruises from where he struck me a few times" he held Jordan's hand.
Jordan looked at Daniel "Did he rape you Danny?".
Daniel sobbed "He tried to... but he didn't as the helicopter appeared overhead".
Jordan kissed Daniel "Thank god".

Jordan insisted with the doctor that he would stay with Daniel overnight and told the rest of the group to go back home and get some rest. Kit said he would collect them from ER and to call him when they were ready to leave. Hillson appeared when they left to get a full statement and shook his head is disbelief as the story unfolded. Jordan asked what would happen to Sage but all he could offer was that he would probably be put on trial for kidnapping with intent to cause harm and dangerous driving.

Mario sat looking at Sage, months of pent up mental torture sitting bubbling on the surface. Over the past few days Curt and Mario had been speaking and Mario had disappeared to be with Curt and help nurse him through the result of his one night stand with Sage. The cloud over Mario was clearing and over the days he and Curt grew closer to each other, Curt was breaking down the barrage of mental abuse Mario had suffered. He looked at Sage who was on a morphine drip and sleeping the nurse did a check on his vitals and said she was monitoring it from the ICU station, Mario said he would call if there was any change as well. He looked at the morphine bag and the label 'Administer over 12 hours through IV line only', he sat and watched as every 5 minutes another drop would fall in to the IV line, Sage stirred opening his eyes and saw Mario sitting there.

Mario leaned over "Are you in pain, how are you feeling?".
Sage grinned "Stupid worthless fucking whore, can't get enough of my cock and toxic seed can you?" he chuckled.
Mario looked at him "You ruined my life just like you tried to ruin Jordan's".
"I will fuck up his new boyfriend and destroy both of them" a small smile broadened on his face.
Mario leaned closer "Leave them alone Sage and I know now what you did to Curt as well".

Mario stroked Sage's arm "No I think your done Sage, I only have one thing to do now".

Mario's hand felt it's way up the IV tube to the drip controller and opened the valve to a steady dripping watching the IV line fill up and pumping Sage's body full of morphine, he knew that it would start to slow his respiratory rate down as it started to take effect. Sage mumbled and Mario saw the heart rate drop a couple of beats, he placed his finger next to Sage's that had the vitals sensor clipped on and swiftly moved it on to his own. He held his breath and saw the change in heart rate and blood pressure and breathed when the nurse didn't look up at the blip on the reading. He sat there smiling at Sage whose eyelids were getting heavy as his respiration began to slow down from the effects of the morphine.

Mario stroked Sage's face "No one else will suffer at your hands Sage, I am going to see to that".

Sage murmured for a moment then coughed his eyes fully closed. Mario watched his breathing getting shallower, he took a cloth and wiped the drip valve to remove his finger print and then did the same with the vitals sensor clip. He put the cloth back and lifted Sage's hand and placed the thump and finger over the drip valve and pressed them, he then repeated it on clip. He leant forward resting his head on the bed and placed Sage's arm around the back of his neck. He watched as Sage took his last slow erratic breaths and he quietly and ever so serenely he slipped away. Mario continued to watch him for half an hour as the last few drops or morphine left the drip bag, Mario closed his eyes and went to sleep, for the first time he really felt a cloud lifting, it was a big risk be it was the only way he could stop Sage's destructive path.

Jordan grabbed sleep whenever he could, he had a very uneasy nights sleep constantly checking on Daniel and holding his hand, the doctor stood outside watching through the observation window with the nurse, she spoke to the doctor 'You see that, that is love that no one can break' the doctor looked at the nurse and patted her arm 'Your getting soft Milly'. She shoved the doctor telling them they better go and see how the other patient is doing.

The shouting woke him as the nurse and doctor rushed around the room, Mario rubbed his eyes and looked at the doctor who shook his head and pronounced the time of death. Hillson came running in to the room, the doctor and nurse suggested from what they saw that Sage's arm was on the back of Mario's head and at some point he moved the clip on to Mario's finger whilst he slept and opened the valve. Mario sat and cried holding Sage's hand for 15 minutes to make it look convincing until Hillson escorted him out of the room. One of the forensics that was in attendance lifted the prints off the clip and confirmed they matched Sage's own. The final few hours of the night slipped by as Hillson came to find Mario in the waiting room.

"I'm sorry for your loss, can I call anyone for you?" Hillson asked Mario.
Mario looked back in the room "No, I think I will go for a walk to clear my head".
"The doctor has told me it was a result of injuries sustained and suicide" Hillson looked at Mario.
"Suicide?" Mario looked shocked.
Hillson nodded "It appears he opened the valve whilst you slept" he looked at Mario in a very unconvincing manner.
"Do I need to stay" Mario asked Hillson who simply shook his head.
Hillson guided Mario out "Strange how it happened but we won't be pursuing this any further".

Mario walked along out of ER and saw Jordan at the vending machine grabbing a coffee, it was still only 5am but Jordan looked tired and exhausted.

Mario walked over in his direction "Jordan can we talk".
Jordan looked over "What's wrong Mario?".
"I just want you to get on with your life, don't worry about Sage any more" he looked directly in Jordan's eyes.
"Mario what have you done?" Jordan spoke quietly.
"Sorted everything out, I am going to live with Curt unfortunately Sage got him as well" Mario replied in a hushed voice.
Jordan looked at Mario "What has happened?"
Mario smiled "Good by Jordan, take good care of your boyfriend" he turned and walked out of the ER.

Jordan stood their scratching his head and retrieved the coffee, making his way back to Daniel's room Hillson was approaching from the opposite direction.

"Ah glad I caught up with" He said stopping to talk to Jordan.
"Is everything alright, do you need a further statement from Danny err Daniel?" Jordan asked.
"I don't think we need to bother Daniel any more. I do have to let you know that Sage Peters has passed away" Hillson told Jordan.
Jordan opened his mouth "But I thought he was going to be fine?".
"Yes, but unfortunately he didn't make it through the night" he said.

Jordan watched him walking away tinged with a little sadness at the news but none the less a little more happier, he went back to Daniel's room who shifted uncomfortably in bed but still slept from the painkillers, he took hold of Daniel's hand and kissed it and drifted off.
