It's one of only two places left you can play in adult bookstores in the Austin area. Over the years we've lost several other bookstores and the spa we used to have. This story is mostly based on reality. I've seen lots of people hitting the pipe in the theater or the booths there but I've never been offered any. Sharing pipes, etc., used to be common place, especially like at concerts and stuff back in the 1980s and 1990s. Now basically never. I suppose it is because smoking of any kind isn't allowed at indoor venues and they're worried about getting kicked out. The bouncers do actually enforce that. It's a "theater" in an adult bookstore, a fairly seedy adult bookstore, not some place that plays mainstream movies. They don't officially allow smoking at this place, even though technically they could since I don't think it is in the city limits, but they don't always actively enforce the ban like some places do. Usually there is only one person working so they rarely ever go into the arcade or theater or private booth areas. They don't like to leave the front counter unmanned long, because the cash drawer is there and stuff. Sometimes there is a second person working cleaning, but only a few hours a day and they can't be everywhere so unless they see it, or someone reports it nothing happens. So it isn't that uncommon to see someone smoking in there. And yes, sometimes it is less than legal substances. It's even more common to smell or hear pipes being smoked in the arcade area. The only places there are cameras are in the common areas like hallways, not in any area where porn is being shown. I know that not all of them work like that of course. As for risk of being caught by law enforcement, I've never heard of any issues with that in at least the past 12-15 years I've been going to the bookstores in the Austin area. LE has other things to worry about so they generally just don't bother. And all of the places still in business are in "no man's land" areas outside city limits in areas where the LE is the county Sheriff's office. I don't know how much difference that makes because I don't think APD would do much either, at least I know they didn't bother Midtowne Spa when they were still around. Now Austin City Code Enforcement.... they might be a problem since places like that theater are generally kind of dirty, run down and broken down. The only place I've had a chance to visit in the DFW area was the "Bright Lights" bookstore/arcade out near Weatherford, west of Ft. Worth. I stopped at the XXX place right across the Red River from OK on IH35 one time but it is only a video/mag/toy store, no booths or theater. Bummer.
