What do you think of "No Nut November" and anti-masturbation campaigns?

I think "No Nut November" is somewhat confusing.

It seems to have originally been started by virgins on the internet who were trying cut down on their endless jerking, but now the rules include "No ejaculating of any kind", including sex. Why is having sex with others supposed to be bad?

Whatever.

This place is supposedly full of sex-crazed gays and we have a porn sub-forum here. What do you think? Do any of you think jacking too much (or... any jacking at all) interferes with a male's body and mind or something?

My sexual desires have been so low since the summer ended, that I have gradually stopped jacking just voluntarily, not because I was planning to join an internet challenge.

I'm not sure that the NNN fad came about out of any sense of sex being bad. From what I can tell, it was originally proposed as satire. Since then, I think there have been two threads supporting its existence.

The first is the religious/conservative right, arguing that masturbation (and premarital sex) are harmful and/or sinful. They're taking it literally and trying to "play it straight". As far as I'm concerned, anyone dumb enough to fall for anything the religious right pushes probably doesn't deserve an orgasm.

The second is the kink community's embracing of this for submissives, having them hold off from orgasm as a means of instilling self control. While that's not my kink, I can understand it, and don't see any problems with it (as with most kinks) as long as it's consensual.

Umm.. lots of things don't have anything to do with sense. And lots of people have a ludicrously false idea of what constitutes "sense".

This fad definitely came from (mostly heterosexual) basement dwellers feeling bad about being jerkoffs, and "communing" together on Reddit to try and do something about it. You could tell us where you got the idea that it was "satire, if you want to.

As far as I know, the "basement dweller" community you're describing (which I take to be "NoFap") started in 2012. The problem for the timeline is that Urban Dictionary has a listing for "No Nut November" created a year earlier, in 2011, suggesting that the term came into existence before its adoption by NoFap.

I don’t follow stupid trends or challenges on the internet. If I want to jack off then that’s what I’ll do. If I want to breed my boyfriend I’ll call him over. Pent up sexual frustration is the reason a lot of violence occur. Men need a release.

There is no scientific evidence that masturbation is in any way harmful. Anything done to excess has the potential to bring adverse effects, but normal masturbation hurts nothing.

The shaming of human sexuality by some societies or parts of societies is a complex subject with deep roots intertwined in power, control, religion and public health, and cannot adequately be sorted through here. Suffice it to say that any attempt to control a population by telling them sex is wrong can only result in creating a population that feels guilt - they’re going to do it anyway, because they must. It is a basic human need.

Frankly I don’t do any of these “monthly trend” campaigns, I quite enjoy being an individual and not latching onto a particular trend for a month just because people are hashtagging it.
I doubt I could abstain from cumming for a month, not that I would want to, I could see it getting increasingly frustrating and as a consequence my ability to self-censor myself in certain situations would be impeded (such as politely telling a colleague they are wrong rather than telling them they are a useless fucktard waste of space).
Hats off to those who are caged and enjoy chastity, to each their own, I just know I couldn’t do it for long without leaving a trail of destruction in my wake!

It sounds like another excuse not to engage in physical sex.  While I have unfortunately not had sex with another human being yet this month, it is because I've been working 14-16 hour days every day this month.  I've probably been a little lower than normal on jacking off, and am sure I'm under 2 nuts a day so far this month.  I do hope to rectify the situation starting tonight.

Are people afraid of sex? I don't understand.

I don't think "fear" has anything to do with it, except for those religious nuts who practice the "My body is God's Temple and I'm keeping it pure for Him" sort of business. Rather, I think there are various reasons/justifications that different people use as the reason to participate.

Some submissive/bottom types do so at the urging/request/demand of a dominant/Top man (partner or otherwise), to help teach him to be less interested in his own orgasm.

Some guys do it because if they know they aren't going to be getting off all month, they are less inclined to waste time on the apps or going out cruising or whatever else might distract them from otherwise productive days and nights.

Some guys do it as a rather extreme form of edging - the first orgasm after November 30 is probably going to be pretty intense.

But no, I don't think people are "afraid" of sex.

I think it is more, some guys are more into sex than others.  It seems like there are a lot of guys that are all fantasy and no action.  They don't even need to jack off to meet their needs.

Isn't that just every day life you describe? I am always confused by why we feel the need to put a label on everything or manage things that do not need to be managed via pledges or silly campaigns like this. Please just life your lives. Love you all.

You asked for an explanation. I gave one to you. I'm not arguing for or against any of the reasons people cite; please take it up with them, not me, if you think their life choices are "silly".
