Coronavirus may spread HIV hatred

Eventually North Woke up to the news of a possibly potent mutation of coronavirus in South Africa.

Noteworthy, according to health experts and as published in a lot of news report, that the origin of this "deadly" mutant, potential of escaping immunity (vaccine or natural) and spreading multifold, has been created in someone with untreated HIV infection and resulting immunocompromised body. Also reported is that Beta mutant from South Africa too came from a HIV infected individual. While such reports may make sense to the medical and scientific community, putting such news in public and referencing HIV positive individuals may create a prejudiced opinion against individuals living with HIV. Of course all gains made in social justice and equality may come under a microscope. This is my personal opinion however it is always great to hear opinions of others. Please post your opinions or comments however be respectful of others.

I think people who are inclined to think badly of gay people and HIV positive people are going to think those thoughts regardless. I think sensible people will recognize that it's highly unlikely that HIV and SARS-CoV-2 are somehow mutating one another. The obvious reasoning - that HIV+ people who lack access to treatment or who don't receive regular treatment are much more likely to have a compromised immune system, and thus be subject to a coronavirus as well - should suffice for the non-bigots. For the rest, who are determined to think badly of us anyway, they're not reachable anyway.

You’re making the assumption that the majority of people are critical thinkers who employ reason. Any given news cycle will supply an overabundance of evidence that the majority absolutely do not.

I don't consume a lot of tv news (or any other kind of tv, for that matter), but those channels I do watch occasionally have not mentioned any linkage between the Omicron variant and hiv - at least that I've heard so far.  I wouldn't be surprised at all if it turns out there is linkage, though ...
