Whether you've taken the decision to go off of meds, never got on them or just can't deal with them financially or side-effect-wise, let's share tips to stay in good shape for those periods where we aren't on meds.

Honestly it’s just usual health stuff. Don’t smoke, get exercise, limit drinking, don’t parTy, etc.

for med resistance the worst thing you can do is take them very inconsistently. IE like twice a week or on one week off again. You are better off stopping completely, then starting again completely.

I'll chip in here with my own experience... since 1993.

Eat well. That means avoiding processed foods. Prepare our own meals. Me and my hubby take turns creating new dishes, especially with fresh ingredients. Limit the amount of bread, rice, pasta. ( I said 'limit', not exclude). Fresh fish instead of red meat, fruit and veggies instead of grain carbs, plain water instead of carbonated sugary drinks, freshly pressed juices at home instead of store bought pasteurised and good for nothing juices. Avoid sugar like the plague. Blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, celeriac, zucchini, apples, grapes, are your friends. Potatoes and tomatoes in moderation. Avoid ketchup - tastes good but still full of sugar. Full milk - not that fat free, full of sugar crap. Regular Greek yogurt for your gut health. Don't overcook meats and especially vegetables. Overcooking them essentially destroys or reduces dramatically the amount of all nutrients, fibres, minerals and vitamins. Try to grow at home some of the more common herbs: basil, parsely, etc. Beside having a nice little plant in your home, it adds flavour to any dish, it's fresh, and you know it hasn't been travelled from the other side of the planet for two months...

Sleep well and exercise regularly. No gym membership needed but great if you can afford one. Use a chair in the office for a 10 min triceps dip, single leg squat, etc. You don't need to stop being productive whilst you're doing that. A routine half an hour walk in the evening - for those of you fortunate enough to live in a place with sidewalks, will do wonders. Walk up the stairs as long as practicable (no, I am not walking up to my office on the 35th floor, thank you very much).

If you smoke, try to cut it out completely. Cold turkey is best, but if that doesn't work for you, try to eliminate the routine. Instead of a smoke break, use the time to do 5 squats and 5 push-ups. Some would argue with setting up a goal for quitting. Do it if it works for you, but don't set up yourself for failure with lofty, unachievable goals. If you smoke a full pack a day, start by saving one for tomorrow. Every 20 days or so you'll save yourself the cost of a pack and you will barely notice the difference. And then take two from the packs. Just think of yourself as the Government raising taxes: 1% here and there, 1% more next year, .... LOL

Easy on drugs and any non prescribed medication. On a recent trip back to Canada I went to Cosco. FFS! 'Advil" in a bottle of 500. Tylenol in a 'Family pack of 1000' ... How many pills are people taking on a daily basis??? Dios mio! Other than what the doctor prescribes, one shouldn't take any medication just because it was 'seen on TV'.  Naturally, any hard drugs are going to have a significant impact on your health so go really easy. I'm by no means a saint when it comes to enhancements, but I never did any hard drugs. Same goes for alcohol. I do indulge once in a blue moon in a good wine (a Barolo Batasiolo from Piemonte is great with pasta, whilst a South African Chenin Blanc pairs glamorously with almost any fish), a Singapore Sling (ahem...), or a simple plain beer made in Germany where the Purity Law still reigns supreme (The 'Reinheitsgebot', enacted in Bavaria in 1516, restricted the ingredients in beer to barley, hops, and water.)

We also restrict the use of any chemicals on a strictly 'as needed' basis. I don't use sun protection creams. I just stay in the sun for a moderate 30min in the morning and 30min in the afternoon. Yes, I do go to the beach daily, but then I stay in the shade. I don't need to burn to a crisp to feel good. I use minimal amounts of fragrances and sprays, and then I prefer the ones made in Oman (Amouage is the brand name - a drop on a handkerchief, or inside the jacker is all that's needed for a discrete and intriguingly faint oriental note). We do our laundry with very little detergent as our days of playing in the mud are gone. We don't use heavy soaps and as for hydrating the skin, a drop of virgin olive oil is all I use.

Laugh. Have fun. Count to 10 when you're angry. Visit your parents if possible. Spend time with your loved ones going for a walk instead of watching news on Tv, or scrolling endlessly through Instagram. Turn off your mobile/laptop when you're done reading this post. Go out and enjoy life. (And, maybe, plan for a trip to Gran Canaria - where we have the only Gay mall in the world, Yumbo, with 11 sex clubs, 10 drag shows every night, 15 gay bars, and a continuous stream of horny men looking for a fuck IRL, and not on an app...)

Peace!
