White Plains, Yonkers, Rockland County Parties/Gatherings?

FINALLY, someone else from my area. I've been on here on and off for like 2 years checking out this part of the message board hoping to see someone or a group of someones hosting something, ANYTHING! haha It's never in any cities/towns in Westchester.

I want to know also. I've been around white plains and surrounding areas for a long time. 

I am very close to White Plains.

I'm from Bergen County, NJ, just a mile or so from the Rockland line.  There's never anything in the area.  I think that being so close to NYC just sucks the gay life out of the area.  The prevailing attitude seems to be why hang in the 'burbs when there's a gay playground in Manhattan?

I love being a burbs cumdump. i'm midtown west. but if I can get a host that likes to share my hole with others that would be great

I don’t live up that way but I am up there overnight for work like 6-7 nights a year. There’s nothing party wise but the flip side is Grindr and sniffies rarely ever fail. And there hasn’t been a night where I couldn’t find a willing top to load me.

This seems to be the prevailing line of thought. Even when there was gay bars in my area play really didn't happen on premise, you had to click and then go get a hotel. Didnt have much luck at Feathers in River Edge

I don't know that any suburban gay bar, at least in the NY metro area, ever had much action on premises.  Feathers, with the "woods" across the parking lot, was probably the closest to something like that.  But, the woods are fenced off now, or they were the last time I was there several years ago.  No gay bar, with the exception of Feathers, seems to last very long in the Bergen/Rockland/Westchester area, and even that bar is now only open four or so nights a week.

Hey @BergenGuy, I'm in Nyack, NY right over the border - grew up in Nyack and moved to the city when I went to Fordham and stayed in Manhattan until my late 30s when I moved back (always visiting Rockland because family and such....). Anyway, I agree with you. Though there was a bit more here when I was a teen (and the summers I came home from Fordham) three gay bars, several gay restaurants in Rockland, and "Feathers" in Bergen, even then the nearness of NYC kind of sucked the cruisier aspects of gay life out of thie area. When I first moved back with my husband in 1999, we were astonished that with so many other gay couples not to mention singles around that there were no group scenes or parties or anything of the sort going on up here and it really hasn't improved much since. Though he no longer plays "extracurricular" - either with me or alone - due to health reasons, we've been sexually open our entire 33 years and I still do atttend group scenes and the like, but almost NEVER here in Rockland. I had two good FB's that co-incidentally each lived in Haverstraw, but one retired south five years ago and the other went south four years ago - that one hosted the last group scene I had here in Rockland in October 2019. Now I am always playing in the city or the Jersey City area or Westchester. Though those are the places that I've played the majority of times since I moved back home, at least until those guys moved I had SOME options of staying local. No more unfortunately. I wish I could host, but since my husband's condition really prevents him from having sex, having a group here that he could see but could not join would be just damn cruel, and he has asked me not to do so, so I can't even help out here.

Very long answer shortened: I agree with you, our proximity to NYC means there are few ultra-local options!

As a former Rocklander, I agree -- the orbit is way too close to the city for any solid gay scene to evolve. Sure, we had Barz in Nyack, but we also were a 30 minute drive to Chelsea...

I remember Barz.  It was the only bar in the area to survive long-term other than Feathers.  Too bad it was mostly lesbian except on Friday nights.

In my 35 years in the area, I've seen a number of bars open and close (Triangles and Pulsations in Rockland, B Lounge in Westchester, Connexxions and numerous bars that didn't last long enough to visit in NJ).  Bergen County can seem to support only one gay bar despite having a population of 950K.  Even that bar, Feathers, is no longer open seven nights a week, although I think that some of their fall-off in business is self-inflicted.  Westchester County, with a population of a million, doesn't seem to be able to support any.  Driving into the city is a pain, but there's not much of a choice.  Not that I go out much these days.  When not on vacation, my weekend nights tend to end at 10pm.  That's when they used to begin.

I don't know if suburban gay bars are declining nationwide or if it is a trend unique to metropolitan areas.

When I was first exploring then coming out  - I graduated High School in 1980 and if you will recall, 18 was legal to go to a bar at that time and despite still being 17 well into my first freshman semester at Fordham, going into bars especially gay bars was pretty easy - we had Candlelight in Upper Nyack (later Barz), Reflections in Piermont, and a dance club that had a different name every 6 months or so that was a bit more lesbian than gay men on Rte 9W in Congers beside Swortwout Lake. Along with those there was Cafe Provencal and the Coven Cafe in Nyack that were gay/lesbian owned, welcomed all, but had specific nights for gay men, lesbians, and straight couples, plus Fridays and Saturdays where all were welcomed (not to mention Brunch which welcomed all but was heavily skewed towards gay men). Feathers in Bergen was the place to go for Monday Nights and $1 beer blast (though as designated driver, I didn't drink the beer...). Rockland also had 3 Adult Bookstores with activity in the booth areas and the parking lots, and supposedly things went on at the XXX Porn Cinema in downtown Spring Valley but I never went there because they only played str8 porn films and the sounds and little girl cries so many women in str8 porn do drive me NUTS; Bambergers (became Macy's), Sears and the Nanuet Cinema had active T-rooms as did the Rest Area in Montvale in Bergen County on the Garden State Parkway (met one of my serious early boyfriends there!). Blauvelt State Park, Tallman Mountain State Park and several Rest Areas on the Seven Lakes Drive also boasted regular gay activity, with nude sunbathers in certain remote locations near Lake Tiorati and Lake Sebago off the Seven Lakes Drive. 

Now, of all of these, Feathers remains the only semi-functioning bar/club, the Spring Valley ABS on Route 59 is all that remains of the book stores, booth stores and porn theaters, and none of the cruisy areas to my knowledge still boast any activity. Very changed place from when I was a teen!

The Coven! One of my favourite spots as a newly semi-out teen in the 90s. I haven't thought of that place in many years.
