I think there is a difference between "breaking the rules" and just making a mistake, plain and simple.  I've posted in the wrong areas, and didn't take the time to find out "what post goes where".  As far as my opinion on certain subjects, I've been told this is a "safe place" to discuss certain subjects.  I've tried to contain myself and just remained quiet when I am repulsed by something, but then again some of my activities I posted  aren't accepted or appreciated either.  I'm still learning, it's a process....

Absolutely there is. And posting in the wrong area only rises to the level of an infraction when the post is absolutely restricted to a particular area, like chasing posts and PnP posts are confined to the Backroom.

In other words, if someone simply makes a mistake and creates a topic about the best way to give blow jobs in the Bareback Porn forum, instead of the General Discussion forum, the mods are simply going to move the topic and (likely) notify the poster. If someone posts about shooting crystal meth or seeking out poz tops to be converted in an area outside the Backroom, that's going to get sanctioned. Appropriately so.

Exactly.   And we need this moderation to survive as a site.  There are a lot of people who would shut us down, even though all they have to do is ignore us; they won't.  Backroom is protective, and the wrong post outside of it harms us.

^^^ This is a little bit of a shorthand explanation.

Any time you "break a rule" (in other words, post something that belongs in a different place, or isn't allowed on BZ at all) and a moderator (or someone else) notices it, a moderator then has to fix it. They can do that by moving it, by editing it, or by removing it entirely. When they do that, they can give you a "Warning" (what @BootmanLA and many others, including myself, refer to as "an infraction"). To keep it from taking an enormous amount of their time, there's a list of standard ones for all of the rules, each with a boilerplate message that gets sent to you and a default number of points. Points stay on your account for a year or two (longer in a very few cases) and after that they expire. If you get a warning and your total number of points at that time is above a certain level, the system automatically assigns a penalty as well, either suspending your posting privileges or suspending your access to the site for some length of time.

Generally, people don't get penalties for trivial infractions like putting something innocuous in the wrong place. They get small penalties for putting things in the wrong place (usually outside the Backroom). They get large penalties for constantly ignoring or deliberately flouting the rules, for seriously out-of-line content (there's not a lot that qualifies, but there are a few things), or for spamming the site.

We're not doing this to shame you or abuse you. It's simply the way @rawTOP designed the site, to try and keep it, in his words,

Quote

[a] community ... of nasty, sweaty fuckers and pigs, [who can] have intelligent discussion and be polite to each other... a community where people feel free to express their opinion and exchange views, where nobody feels uncomfortable or insulted, even if people disagree with them.

If you want to stay on the right side of the rules, you can  prevent about 95% of potential goofs by doing two things:

1. Read them so you know what goes where and what isn't allowed (link below).

2. Know where you are posting on the site. This is a super easy one to goof on - I do it myself when moderating sometimes, and then have to do a bunch of extra work to correct the mistake (usually incorrectly giving someone a warning when they were in fact posting in the right place). The breadcrumb strip near the top of the page (if you're on a computer) is very helpful:

large.bzbreadcrumbstrip.jpg.f2b35f4e750a7cd43aac9c867e6022ab.jpg

It shows the nested subforums that the post (or subforum) you are viewing are inside of. If you don't see "Backroom" in the second spot from the left (right after "Home"), you are not in the Backroom and should not post things that are restricted to it.

I try to be careful. Its happened to me a few times and always because I wasn't paying attention to where I was posting. Just hate getting restricted and missing out on stuff lol

To protect myself from getting suspended again I just limit what I say here. I’m on several sites and this is the only one where I’ve been Disciplined.

If you mean limiting yourself to things other than the very small handful of forbidden topics, that's what we all should be doing. Those are literally the rules we agree to when we sign on here.

No, limit what I say because the rules aren’t always clear. Right now I was going to give an example but thought better of it.

OK. But without an example, I (or RawTop, or the moderators) would have no way to evaluate whether the rules need clarifying, or whether they're clear but just being overlooked or ignored at times. Certainly your choice.

I hear you. I’ll tell you that it just involved me mentioning another site. I saw other guys mention this site along with others like Squirt and Adam. But this other site got me suspended. Site starts with W. I saw no rule saying that the mention of this site was off limit.

But out of precaution I refrain from discussions here that I can discuss elsewhere.

That’s mainly so I do not unknowingly break any more rules.

That's actually what most "wrong forum" posts get - the moderator moves the post, and notifies the member that it belongs in this other spot. Penalties are generally only levied, in my experience, when someone is *deliberately* breaking the rules, or else has crossed a line in terms of attacking another member, etc.

I beg to differ, @BootmanLA  My own penalty came with no warning nor prior offenses. I'm sure it spared some poor soul the indignity of my aberrant behavior and I suppose one should be grateful for BZ's diligent administrators. I have 9 more months to serve out my sentence.

I can't speak to your infraction, but as Viking explained, each type of offense gets a certain number of warning points, which generally expire after a certain period of time (though there are exceptions, I assume for serious offenses). If that number of points is high enough (ie a more severe infraction, like posting Backroom content outside the Backroom), OR you have a total combined number of unexpired points with the newly levied ones, then you get a penalty.

If you have only ever had one "incident" (which your post seems to indicate), then it may well have been a serious one that generates a penalty on the spot. Viking's explanation, above, may clarify things for you.

Y'all are talking a bit at cross-purposes here.  As far as I recall (and I checked the infraction) @CoachPHX did not get a penalty (as described by me above), just an infraction.

It's perhaps worth noting here that the warning points and warnings history you see when you view your own profile are NOT visible to other Members, only to you and the staff.

Thanks for the clarification - I hope this helps CoachPHX understand the process too.

I have loved this site from the beginning. But I confess I find it difficult to post on this site because I always seem to be breaking the rules one way or another .

I have plenty to share with all of you. Some are fantasies, some come my own experience. As, finally, I would love to arrange a fucksession with anyone coming to Rio de Janeiro soon.

Thanks

ALL OF THIS!!!  It would GREATLY help if administrators would create identical topics for each category so we have a one for one comparision on where to post things.  For example:

"Your Last Load" (Fetish free) -> located in "General Discussion

"Your Last Load" (HIV fetish) -> located in The Backroom

"You Last Load (Other fetishes) -> locared... whever other fetish topics are gathered?

It's SO CONFUSING trying to figure out where the hell to post things in the first place.  And no, even the guidance threads pinned up still don't fully help.  This site desperately needs to be restryctured and organized.  I get that as things grow, messes occure.  But I've been flagged numerous times for posting under the wrong category because I can't figure out which fetishes are appropriate where?  And it there are topics to add new posts to or if this category only has a massive thread to randomly (and unsearchably) add it to?  Or if it's another subcategory of a buried category that's not in The Backroom but further elsewhere?  Etc, etc, etc.

Admin, PLEASE, please reorganize and standardize the mapping of this site.  We're trying to follow the rules.  Honestly.  But I can't figure out where the hell to post a non-fiction story dealing with anon, HIV, scat, and piss play without getting flagged for at least one of those NO MATTER WHERE I post it.  It's... frustrating.  I'm trying to be good.  I promise.  When I'm not being bad elsewhere.  😉
