What are you most optimistic about in political developments in 2025?

I’m optimistic that more macho closeted, authoritarian GOP’ers or MAGA men are going to wanna get their frustrations out on subservient holes like mine. You know they’re out there, just waiting for the right opportunity when their buddies aren’t watching to sneak off and find a hot bottom to breed. That’s my optimistic take on the times we’re living.  I can only hope those sorts of radicalized men any to get off on fucking my liberal leaning ass

Yes, know of those guys right around me.

Nope @Erik62 not at all.

For me "optimism" has left the station.  But, I can see a variety of pathways which might unfold going forward.  Some utterly brutal.  We are in the process of grappling with the BIG DIVIDE we're living in.  We have a whole lot of people seeking a savior; taking the position of "here go fix this" as if government were our local mechanic.  Worse, rather than a shared pool of interaction, we've spun off into factions and pretty much ignore.

We are in a world where conflicting and often warped if not overtly wrong information being spun to the masses pretty close to moment to moment.

I am not a guy on his "smart" phone constantly.  It is wherever I last set it down.  I am not a fan of sudden loud noises; appreciating whatever environmental sounds actually around me is what I favor.  There was a time we didn't always have a running stream of music, or talk radio constantly streaming into our ears?  If we live that, when do we ever get into that quiet space of focused consideration of whatever catches our interest.  So clearly I am in a minority of my fellow Wisconsin citizens; and that has become largely true throughout the USA.

And indeed listening to music, especially focused listening is a pleasurable activity.  Without earbuds, there are sounds all around us.  Environmental sounds present information about what is going on around us.  Data for our brains to use in getting familiar with, and understanding what is occurring around us.

It seems to me we block each out out mostly...  I try to visit with neighbors standing in line with me.  Even trite interaction confirms that we, the sound we make, the heat our bodies put out, how the space we're in smells.  Restated focused time where we actively plug in all the senses we can take in about the space we're in now, with whomever is with us now.

I also became an adult while the 1960's unfolded.  And it pretty much feels now like we were then.

It might be that we need to consider the history of the 1960's (and early 70's) and see if we can see better what NOT to do now.

Somehow, we need to rediscover our common ground.  I don't think that happens for any of us until we, ourselves, decide to.

I hear you. My dream / perfect way of living would be a country cabin, where the weather was clean & the stars shine bright. I sit on the balcony, comfy on my swing seat, with people I love or just good friends & a pleasant drink - tea, coffee, wine or a whiskey. My dogs curled up & the soft background music. Classical, Country, 50's, 60's, & 70's, even some hymns & gospel. That's my dream & as long as I live that will remain as my way of getting to the next day. Who knows, one day it may be a reality.

My home is somewhat as you describe.  Clean potable water, made better by my own systems in my home to remove forever chemicals for example.  Big private yard.  Away from the fray.  And I am grateful that is the case today.  Will that remain tomorrow?  These and other secrets will be uncovered in the coming days, weeks, months and years...

As a gay man. I voted for Donald Trump. What was sleepy Joe's plan for jobs? Harris never had a plan for jobs. In fact Harris was choked up on the idea of creating a job that she said different stuff. That's when I knew that she is fake and we need Trump!

Gay or straight opinion. There's a reason Donald Trump is president of the United States and why Red has both house and senate.

People voted for it!

A BIG PROBLEM😱!!! The Reds are already beginning to see their folly, in voting for him. Even Steve Bannan, YES BANNON, has already spoken out about the dismemberment of the US by Trump & Musk. You admit to being Gay but, I hope YOU ARE NOT poz because life is going to get very difficult. Unless of course you have found a way to get pregnant. Being Gay & a Trump supporter, you really have NO IDEA but, I somehow don't feel sorry for you.

I  am very happy to see the Trump administration make a concerted effort to shrink government and regulation, reduce bureaucratic headcount and federal contract spending, root out the massive corruption and excessive government expenditure in USAID/HHS/DOJ/etc among other places, move to end the Ukraine war, fight censorship in America and call out the destruction of democracy in Europe, and instill some (slight) hope for a just peace for the Middle East, though the Gaza Own It thing is hopefully another thing that cannot be taken at face value.  It would be great if he really could work with Xi and Vlad to cut military expenditure by 50%, though I noticed Vance walked it back a bit.  It would be great if the DOGE could audit all of the unauditable unaccountable agencies like the DOD and the Fed.   I was originally less concerned about the DOGE, but I do have concerns about the privacy of information.  I  do feel for the trans community and can understand how my bareback bros might worry about it as a portend of things to come for homos.  Definitely have to watch the retreat of individual freedoms, even while freedom to operate in groups may be changed.  (I don't expect many to agree with me on my optimism, but hopefully agreement is not the only thing worth communicating.)   No beef with the RINO/Democratic voters, but I hope the corrupt RINO/DEMOcrats remain stunned as their theft of Americans' hard earned tax dollars and their intervention in the world's free nations gets upended.  I  maintain a healthy suspicion of Trump and think a high level of engagement and opinion sharing will be necessary throughout the next four years.

The only thing I'm optimistic about, is that the sense of entitlement by the Dems has evaporated in an eyeblink, and the knee-jerk reaction is to redouble our efforts - get off our asses and take part in rebuilding the party.

This kind of thing happens to any/every political party occasionally, and wakes up the lazy.  I fully expect the Dems to retake Congress (both houses) with substantial majorities in the upcoming midterms (assuming we still even hold elections).  There may not be much left of our Democracy by then, but whether we rebuild from the basement up, or the first floor up doesn't make a whole lot of difference either.  I think this current aberration will burn itself out rather quickly.

Maybe that's why the current resident of the White House is pushing so hard to tear down every shred of Government while he has the chance. I hope he does move to his new Riviera; they know how to deal with cranks like him.

I have always had a healthy respect for MANY of the issues that Trump has put forth. Where I have major problems is HOW he is going about rectification. Musk, an unelected, unauthorised (by Congress) & obviously mentally out-of-control harbinger of death, people with no government certification accessing private/secret personal & government information & control of computer systems, destruction of welfare systems, complete removal from international affairs & inappropriate dealings with leaders who have every desire to destroy lives, sovereign borders & to make huge personal (billion💲💵 💵 profits) from the resultant human tragedy.

Trump has no sense of reality or logic & is TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL.

Trump/Musk refuse ANY outside high level engagement & opinion sharing.

As a result the next four years will only cause the US to lose ALL CREDABILITY within the international community, return the US to its days of Xenophobia / isolationism, reduce its military standing & effectiveness, destroy any OR ALL of its hard won international treaties & agreements.

Aside from its political & military degradation within the international community, TOURISM will be affected to depths unimaginable. No doubt Russian, Hungarian, Belrussian visitor numbers will increase significantly but, the loss of the PINK DOLLAR & other Western nations will take decades to get back.
