I want to visit Fort Lauderdale and usually stay at regular hotels, Best Western, LaQuinta etc.

It’s methy. Can be fun for a day pass but I’d never stay there at night. Not sure how busy it gets at night but generally it’s a fun place. A few outdoor play areas and slings in all rooms. Not in the best place in the city so they keep the gates locked at all times so it’s not a good pump and dump spot.

better off staying closer to Wilton manors or the days inn on Oakland park and going on sniffies but it’s good for a day pass.

So is everyone staying there, getting high in their rooms?

I disagree that it's methy. While i could see them tolerating it the clientele isn't there strictly to do drugs. I stayed for a week in march 2 years ago and had a nice time. I came to relax before a work event the following week and had a pleasant stay. It's not in the best area but many things are walking distance including a whole foods and dunkin which were nice to have close so I could afford the rides to other parts of town for fun. Beach isnt far and wilton isnt far but you will need a car/uber to get there. The other guests were generally 50 and older but that just meant I got plenty of friendly attention. The pool parties/day pass crowds we're more mixed and I met a few ppl there just for the day. The outdoor play spots are nice the pool and deck was nice and my room was good. An older property thats fairly well maintained. Agree it's not practical for anon hookups because you have to let your own guests through the gate.

I stayed in Wyndham Garden Fort Lauderdale by the airport and it was ok. No need for a keycard to use the elevator

This thread is about Inn Leather.

I would not call Inn Leather "Methy".  There are tons of places to stay that all all gay, and clothing optional, and I am sure there is meth use going on there as well.  It's not as if you are going to see guys slamming or hitting a pipe in the common areas, that is just not going to happen.  What people do in their rooms is their business.  Of course the fact that each room has a sling in it is really inviting.  Would I say it's as a fancy place, no I wouldn't.  But you can be naked and open about your interests and not have to worry about the management telling you to close your blinds.  Seeing what is going on in a room is really a unique experience.  Some guys are in their own world, involved with the guy in the sling.  Others use it almost as a way to promote themselves, sort of a "look at me" and may try to entice you to come into their room to play.

The fact that they have day passes is a very smart marketing tool on the part of the owners.  You'll find that guys who book for multiple nights are usually from out of state, enjoying the weather.  So by offering the locals the opportunity to enjoy the location adds to the amount of guys those who are renting rooms have to select from.  It gives locals a chance to go someplace and see just who is visiting from out of town.  To me, it's a win for everyone.  The long term guest from out of state, the local who may want to let loose and see who is visiting from out of town, and of course management, who earn extra cash by allowing guys to purchase a day pass.

The last time I was staying in Lauderdale for several days I stayed somewhere else.  I had a particularly "forward" friend who suggested we go over there, say around 10 pm, and just crash the place. I don't know how he got us through the front gate  but he did know the manager on charge, and suggested  I proposition him in order to get a room.  I went over and said hello to the guy and he said something like "sorry, but we are all booked for the evening".  He never said, "get out", or "leave", he was just walking around the property and by this time guys who had their curtains open had actually come out of their rooms to say hello.   After a certain hour you know who is there for the evening and the day time visitors are gone, so we were "fresh meat" and people were trying to get our attention.

Now I am not suggesting that you trespass, but how different is this from going to some strangers room at a hotel where there is no key card required?   Not much really.  So if you're feeling confident and you go under the "oh I am looking for a room" routine, you might be pleasantly surprised.  I have heard stories of guys being chased out of there, but I suppose it who is working that day or evening, and also how you conduct yourself if you do manage to get on the property.  Many registered guests will actually wait up front and let guys in who they are expecting to play with.

You run the chance of being embarrassed if they realize you don't know anyone registered in one of the rooms, but I was honest and said I didn't have a reservation and was merely looking for a room.  As I mentioned he never asked me to leave the property, I suppose that's a chance you just have to take.

Most guys had their blinds open,  I never saw any kind of drug use going on.  I am sure it goes on in just about every gay guest house in Lauderdale, at least that has been my experience.  However, most guys try to be discreet about it.

No.  There are a lot of locals that go there on a "day pass", spend part of a day having sex, and that's that.  There are paths surrounding the buildings so guys can look in the windows at the action (all the slings are hung so guys can see the action through the window.  Then, almost every guy with the room leaves the door slightly ajar, so other guys can check out the action through the window, and either come in and join or keep on cruising.  There's also plenty of sex in/around the pool, other nooks and crannies on the property.

The drugs are mostly used inside the rooms, with the door closed and the shades drawn over the windows.  Not that I've ever seen them, but I'd guess that there are undercover cops* in there sometimes too.  I suppose for some guys, the drugs are the primary draw - but for most guys, the public fucking is the fun part.

*it's Ft Lauderdale - the cops are mostly gay too, and obviously they're not in uniform ...

The most important things to know about Inn Leather is that it’s very small (only ten rooms), very basic (one-star) and the demographic skews older: not 40s and 50s, but 60s and 70s+. When I was there, only 10 percent of the guys were under 65. Despite the name, the scene is not so much kink or fetish as it is older and bearish.

Most of the guys are locals on day passes. They arrive around 10:00 or 11:00 and spend the day hanging out at the pool. Everyone is completely naked and, as there is no enclosed playroom, all the sex takes place in the open. A lot of guys get sucked off in the pool. There’s also a sling and a picnic table for guys to get fucked. Most of the guys engage in sexual activities for a bit, but it’s not a full on orgy.

It’s also essential to note that the day passes all end at 5:00, when everyone that is not staying in one of the ten rooms is escorted out. As the vast majority of the guys there are on day passes, the place becomes a ghost town after 5:00. You can invite your own guests over (and let them in the gate) but otherwise the options for “fresh meat” are limited.

The rooms are very basic and grungy. No one stays there for the quality of the accommodation.

The advantage of staying at Inn Leather is, unlike other clothing-optional hotels in Fort Lauderdale, almost everyone is looking for sex. The disadvantage is that I didn’t want to have sex with most of them. I was hoping the vibe would be more like 321 Slammer (a diverse set of guys of all ages and types being piggy) but with sleeping rooms.

The scene is pretty chatty and social so if you like hanging out naked with slutty guys in their 70s, it’s definitely the place for you. Otherwise, there’s not a lot to recommend it. I’m not bashing older gay men and I think it’s wonderful that they have a place to hangout and have fun. The place caters to a very specific demographic and it’s either you thing or it’s not.

I'm sorry to read that you were so disappointed.

That said:  having spent many afternoons down there, I can't remember a time when there were only "10% of the guys were under 65".  Yes, there are some "seniors", and plenty of younger guys.  Some guys value "experience", some don't.   One of these days you'll be a senior too, and your lusts won't dry up once you are.

Given that I.L. is built a business-model of catering to "day-pass" traffic (there are guys that drive up from Miami, other smaller towns outside of Ft. L. for example), I wouldn't expect spacious, luxurious rooms.  Also, I've never experienced anything less than a clean (if spare) room.  There's a sling in every room, a clean john/shower, and everything is neat and tidy.  Nothing is extravagant, but there are more than enough gay guesthouses around town (particularly W.M.) that are downright extravagant, and priced accordingly.  As far as I know, we're still not able to fuck plaster statues.

Inn Leather* is an great source of enjoyment to lots of guys, and it's far enough away from downtown that it'll survive our mayor's thirst tearing down so many older places instead of renovation, preservation.

*which may have had some relationship with what Leathermen call The Leather Scene/Life at some point years ago.  Admittedly t's hardly that now (unless someone equates a sling in every room with living The LeatherLife.

I’ve travelled to FTL from California several times and stayed at different places. Including Inn Leather twice. Yes, there are more “deluxe” accommodations. That said, neither time have I felt/experienced that Inn Leather was “methy” nor “in a bad area” or that I should have stayed in Wilton Manor. Nor did I find the crowd “older”. I played with men in a broad spectrum of age. In fact, the best sex I had was with a HOT 30-something big-dicked Brazilian stud and, later, his equally big-dicked 50-something partner. I stayed at Inn Leather for the sex and—because of the day pass guys and both the sling in my room AND those outside on the property, Inn Leather delivered on that. It’s basic, as opposed to posh. I’ve stayed at more posh places in FTL and had the same experience: At night, it’s as “quiet” as the more posh places I stayed at. You can meet guys online to come and play, yet at any place at night, you’ve got to go to the gate to let them in. Frankly, I’m grateful of that.
