This whole USAID debacle has a whole jumble of emotions going on within me.  The old saying I grew up with was "I don't know whether to shit or go blind".  This is taking us back to the 80's when the government decided that not doing anything about HIV would have us all dead in short order; so that nature would solve the problem (of us living as whomever we are).

There's a global game going on of Monkey See Monkey Do.  Thus watching the insane US President and perhaps thinking that most of us US Citizens are supportive of the current lawless behavior.  Hells bells, isn't this where polling my actually help us, but it's not election season so no poll panic.

None of us elected Elon Musk, and his fake department DOdGE are doing overtly illegal things.  The US experienced a good amount of this sort of behavior in the late 1800's.  We might benefit right now with a history lesson of that time.  Ken Burns put together a well done reasonably accurate account on PBS I saw a few months back.

I think we may need to coalesce as a group, perhaps, and see if collectively we have a big enough voice to make a difference.  But this current madness has already started to hurt parts of us.

WRT World Health Organization as well as USAID, the reality is that disease doesn't know politics and it doesn't pay attention to borders very well either.  Things will not go well for us if we allow unchecked unknown viruses begin to spread through out us.  Poz or not, that is going to hurt a bunch of us.  Ostensibly those of us here on Breeding Zone are here expressing our joy at living a life of bareback sex.  And while PrEP and u=u has certainly kept HIV at a more modest rate for a large percentage of HIV people the meds have stopped.  Essentially putting the brakes on progress.

This madness is reversing course on helping to stop the unchecked spread of emerging diseases.  Remember what that was like with HIV?  Can you imagine how Ebola would have unfolded had it not been recognized and contained quickly?

Are there enough of us here who can move forward with a unified purpose to reverse the recent madness, and return to a time when changes were done legally and in context of the geopolitical events which exist?

Going off the rails as we have NOW, is surely a revolution.  None of this retribution nonsense helps anyone save, maybe, but probably not, one guy.

... end of rant, now normal programming will resume

Our current knowledge and response to both Ebola and Covid are based on antiviral research because of HIV.

"One undeniable fact is that most of our current knowledge on viral and antiviral science comes from the study of HIV. The science of antiviral research was well established when HIV/AIDS appeared as a major viral disease in early 1980s. An increase of antiviral therapy studies with no equal took place when the first cases of HIV were reported. "

Everyone that lived through it will never ever ever ever forget.

You're correct, of course.  Can you narrow it down a bit though?  Define what you mean by "group".  A flesh-and-blood collection of concerned gay guys, like back when hiv first appeared?  There are already a number of gay/lesbian/trans/apologies-if-I-missed-anyone groups actively resisting the hellish whirlwind of hatreds emanating from 1600.

If you meant here on BZ, I'd like to know how that would be managed.

In any case, men and women of good will, of whatever stripe, of whatever background, need to organize, and exert maximum pressure on their local politicians.  Shit like this may be announced by those squatting on the top of the pile, but the real action starts and grows from the bottom upwards.  When men and women of good will gather together, make plans to actually do something*, it enervates everyone involved, and that increased level of energy can overcome the natural fear of what might happen.  When we work together - when we take part, actually turn up, join, start a resistance group, the response to tyranny grows exponentially.  All it takes is a handful of people of good will to get that ball rolling.

*and notify the local press in advance

@hntnhole exactly the right questions.  Honest I think I can't begin to answer until we see how much consensus there is on my problem statement.

I've never been a party wonk; but at this stage in history perhaps I need to join the D team and see if I can help move if off the left wingtips to something representing the needs of the most.  We've been missing that.

At this point in time I think I/we need to see if this takes root.
