PDA - Are gay couples still harassed for being an Out gay couple ?

The couple in this video was harassed in Jackson Hole, WY, for just doing what a straight couple had done before them — showing affection for each other and letting society know that they are together — through a PDA - public display of affection. Where they right in doing so?

I was surprised when I visited Mexico City.  Lots of gays holding hands in the city.  Seems like a gay-friendly town

No surprise to me - a close relative lives just up the road from J.H., I've visited, and I wouldn't live there for love nor money.  One morning I woke up to find a gigantic* moose staring in the window at me.  Oh - and there's a grand total of 6 weeks of summer.

To the OP though, a lot of the answer depends on the location.  The responses would be different from different parts of the country.  Some parts of the country wouldn't blink twice at PDA in public spaces - other places, not so much.  

In major metro areas, public displays of affection (depending on how "graphic" they are, obviously) would barely be noticed.  In others, the most innocuous, limited expressions would be demeaned. 

I think each guy has to sniff this one out for himself; there isn't any cut-and-dried answer.

I meant the question both factually as well as normatively: what would I do/what do I do usually etc. but also, what should I — ought to —do?

That depends on how 'in-your-face" you want to be. 

I think that whatever a straight couple could do to show affection for each other would apply across-the-board to gay couples.  What you "ought" to do is, do what you feel comfortable doing, within the parameters of socially-accepted behavior. 

If you and I were in some store, deciding on whether or not to buy this or that, came to an agreement, a hug, a quick peck on the cheek, would be no problem, as I see it.  We probably shouldn't fuck in the aisle, but then if we have bail money in our pockets, so what?  

You should do what you believe to be the right thing for you.  Outside of starting a physical fight, no one should have an issue with some measure of PDA.  If someone doesn't like it, then turn their face the other way.  We won't advance our cause by being ashamed to openly love our partner.

I think he’s in Canada? Not sure which city. 
and it might be a bit difficult to deport someone who’s not in your country….

i am really sorry that you had to put up with that

I think It depends on where you are. … But not based on location like pool or churches etc … but location based on country/ state/ city

in Boston there are actually a lot of churches where gay lesbian couples can show affection (hold hands … kiss, etc) in addition to holding hands walking down the street 

Of course … even in Boston you will run into the hateful nut job… and I fear that as the MAGA movement spreads there will be fewer safe places for us 

But I hope that all you couples out there keep showing a few PDAs …. Unfortunately it is still a revolutionary act
