I, too, grew up watching and jerking off to the Cadinot films. The bareback scenes were scorching hot. There was a romantic intimacy and normality about them. Chemistry was instantaneous. I think "Harem" was one of or even the first gay porn films I saw and it was a major turn-on at the time simply because it was gay porn. But I wasn't really into the skinny boys he often used as models. Watched it nevertheless because it was m2m sex. Soon after that I discovered the early Joe Gage movies which were much sleazier and the guys were more my taste.

About 15 years ago an Arthouse film theatre across the street from where I lived showed a Cadinot movie as their late night (11pm) movie. The queue outside was what you would expect at the release of a new Star Wars movie. Half the town's 'fashionable gay crowd' was waiting in line so they could watch porn under the pretence of going to an art movie ;-)
