@PozToxVersPig that is what makes art art …. It leaves some people totally cold … and goes straight through the heart of others (and every emotion in between)

if it had the same effect (affect?) on everyone… it would not be “art” it would just be some sort of mind controlling propaganda

@onlyraw This "art" you speak of - what is that? 😀😄😍

I don't expect everyone to have the same opinion or experience the same impact of anything.

Heated Rivalry was not for Breeding.Zone community. They didn't use condoms, but they didn't "fuck" either.  This was not porn as the female Intimacy Coordinator was a few feet away. Hudson was injured in their first sex scene in Las Vegas. Each wore the "cock-sleeve" during filming, but Hudson declined the extra protection for his rear and Connor's balls were slapping up against him. Connor had to use a bigger pad.

It was not eligible for an Emmy because Jacob kept it 💯 Canadian and funded with  Canadian tax dollars. Series of books written by Rachel, but the TV show was written by Jacob. Rachel was involved throughout the process including the first 2 screenings in Toronto and Montreal.

Jacob shopped around Hollywood and promoters said no sex scenes until the 5th episode. It would have been very different and not the Novelty it became.

It did win TV series at the GLAAD Awards last Sunday Night in LA after Connor hosted Saturday Night Live in New York the day before. Hudson made a brief cameo and gave Connor an emotional hug at the end. Jacob and Connor's mom and sister were in the audience. Hudson missed the awards show, but Scott, Kip, Ilya and our 3 supporting female actors  attended with Jacob accepting the award.

There were no sad storylines or tragedies but took the viewers on some emotional roller-coasters and brought gay characters with depth and reality to the general public. We were represented as full individuals and not just 1-2 character types.

The 3 "Empty Netters" did an excellent review with notes and commentary for each episode, though they did not show any scenes from the TV show. They work on scripts/productions in LA and comfortable with the storylines.

Good news for fans is everyone has signed on for season 2 with filming to start August 2026 and set to air in spring 2027. It is still a Crave production filmed in Canada. Will HBO pick it up again? HBO is part of Warner Brothers and being merged into Paramount.

I will never watch that garbage show. I played hockey when I was young, and I guarantee you that there are no gays playing ice hockey. And I guarantee you that every fucking guy playing hockey is a bully who hates fags. Pretending otherwise  makes my blood boil. Pretending that they're like us, when in fact, they're the one beat us up.

I'm Canadian, and I'm a fan. Bing watched it twice in one weekend.

I would critique that it buys too heavily into the romantic monogamous myth of heterosexual relationships, and relys too heavily on all the guys being gorgeous.

Don't misunderstand me, I love eye candy as much as anyone. And for the graphic nature of the sex scenes their beauty is a turn on.

I was disappointed there was no full frontal, but neither was I surprised. I look forward to the porn knock-offs ..  especially when some cheating and bb orgy action is added. Hollander is too receptive a bottom to be satisfied by one hunks cock,  no matter how seductive that hunks Russian accent!

My favorite scene is in episode 5 when Hallander's girlfriend so gently draws him out of the closet. And her reaction to his confession that he prefers to take it up the ass is priceless.

The acting is such high quality The dialog so ruch. The emotions are so real. The character development delightful. I was drawn in deeply.

In my group of Canadian friends someone only needs to say "wolf bird" and we are all in stitches.

I know this series is not for everyone, but I'll be near the front of the line to see season 2.

Does your guarantee include Dan James?

He provided a DEEP DIVE (90-120 minutes) of each episode including one with his husband. He talked about the triggers and his emotional reaction to the series and how it reflected his own lived experiences. He is Gay, and did play professional Hockey.

The 2 actors are NOT professional hockey players. Their first time on the ice the 5 year old kids were skating around them. Connor had difficulty finding available ice rinks in Los Angeles. Hudson lives in Canada 🇨🇦

Wow. 1... 1 gay player. Over 250000 registered ice hockey players midgets+, every year, for past 50 yrs in Canada alone. And yet 1 out gay player

It sounds like you have some traumatic memories of playing hockey as a kid. That sounds horribly painful.

I understand your reaction and there's no doubt your read on hockey's pervasive homophobia is rooted in reality. I think lots of people, including Rachel Reid who wrote Heated Rivalry and Jacob Tierney who wrote and directed the adaptation for television, agree with you. I think both wish it was different, too.

Rachel is the first to say her books are romantic fantasy. The power structure of her fictional hockey league isn't welcoming to men who have sex with men either. The fictional commissioner is a very clear homophobic villain.  She makes just one team in the entire league a place where the homophobic culture doesn't completely dominate.  Individual players and coaches, just like individuals in the real world, have their own attitudes and experiences and we get to see how they play out in a less homophobic environment. I think that's the whole point. Rachel and Jacob were aligned on celebrating queer joy in the source material and the adaptation, arguably very successfully.  Again, it's a romantic fantasy so that's what it is supposed to do. They also managed to show how human beings lives can be distorted by fear and prejudice and what it can take to get over or around it.

Meanwhile, the real-world hockey league is getting about a 20% bump in ticket sales from HR fans kicking the tires as new hockey fans. New hockey fans who come into the sport knowing the league has *never* had an active player who is out, and whose expectation is for the league to make moves so that changes.

I've heard a lot of chat about how Rachel's fantasy hockey league seems to have way more gay and bi players than it should, but looking at the statistics, it seems like she's only scratching the surface. About 6% of men in the general population self-report as same-sex attracted and there are 736 active NHL players at any time. It looks like about 1000 NHL players overall. Bear in mind that self-reporting is significantly less than the real number since so many men would not self-report. That means conservatively there are between 44 and 60 gay, bi, and queer players in the NHL. I'm pretty sure Rachel's book series hasn't come close to the lower threshold number in queer characters, so in my view her fictional hockey league is still dramatically underselling the number of same-sex attracted men there are in real-world hockey.

I'm sorry you were so ill-treated and abused when you were younger. The NHL has so much work to do as it's seen as the most homophobic and least welcoming of all professional sporting leagues. I've been enjoying reading professional athletes reacting to the TV show and comparing it with their sport and experiences.

I have to believe the kind of focus and pressure that shows like Heated Rivalry can bring to bear can only speeds the pace of change.
