The new domain sounds great.

But as for the whole series of new TLDs, it just seems more like a gimmick to saturate search results than an exciting change in the way people think about URLs. If you look at the words, I would suggest you will start seeing lots of companies that buy up and create landing pages for lots of them.

For instance big box retailers of home improvement items might pick up their domain, and variations, and even some misspellings of competitors names (or the actual site with a different TLD).

Which is also a big consideration for existing site owners, and a need to buy the TLDs for their site(s) that correspond to common search terms that are used for the sites.

Effectively, this is keyword link loading taken to its limits.

But I still think breeding.zone is cool. Like bow ties. :-)

Doesn't really matter to me, nor would I imagine it would matter much to anyone else who has already found the site.

BUT I can imagine in several years time (as you said) everything will be DOTphotos this and DOTporn that. So the fact you have already bought up such URLs shows that the site is future proofed, which is always good for new members.

As you have said if you did change it then the old URL will just re-direct, so I'd suggest just change it and in time everyone will get used to it.

It kinda reminds me of that Henry Ford quote, you know “If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” I can't imagine anyone on the site will desperately want the URL changed, but nor do I imagine it will make much difference to people if you do.

At first, I would say don't change it. You have a good thing going. To be more technical, when I see a web address for some company, magazine, or site I might write it down. I try to shorten what I have to write, by dropping the www and/or the com and just leave a dot (.) at the beginning or the end as the holder. For example: for www.rawtop.com = .rawtop. , for breedingzone.com = breedingzone. ... Now as I think about this, I could really get use to the new addresses as well.

But as you said earlier, you will use one site as the host site and the other site(s) as landing pads to redirect travelers to the host site. So really it does not matter.

Question: Could you use both site addresses to power the site equally? For example two horses both pulling a buggy together. Or would that not work so well in the digital world.

Google doesn't like duplicate content (the same thing at two addresses). So I have to pick just one and run with it.

The problem with all these new TLDs being set up is that if you want to protect your brand name (being breedingzone in this case) you are almost forced to claim and buy every single TLD that is set up. Or risk that someone else will hijack it (e.g. breedingzone.sex or whatever). Now with all these new TLDs that can become very, very expensive.

I realized this when I was considering setting up a website for a business I planned to set up (which fell through btw). I realized I had to claim all TLDs at the time. Starting with .com/.org/.eu but also every fucking European country in addition like .nl (in my case) but also .de for Germany, .es for Spain etc etc. Just to protect the company name.

To me it sounds like a money grabbing operation. It was so simple when you only had .com, .org and a country TLD like .NL. If you want to protect a brand nowadays it will cost a fortune per month to pay in order to protect your brand.
