Personally, I never ask using the word "clean". I will just ask about sexual health status. If I get asked I never use the words clean unless its referring to if I took a shower or if I've cleaned out.

If I know their intent is to ask about my sexual health status but ask "are you clean" I will answer with what my current sexual health status is and go from there. I don't like dancing around what the intent of the question is. Much prefer disclosure.

"Are you clean" / "I'm clean" is a deal breaker for me. It implies people with HIV are "dirty." People asking that don't get a second ride.

I ask

  • HIV neg or undetectable?
  • Any other diagnosed STIs or communicable / blood stuff I could catch?

Be clear in your intention. And for God's sake ask before he's balls deep in your guts.

I am puzzeled why anyone who fucks raw even asks that question.  I assume everyone who fucks me can be infected with something.  Even if I ask the question there is absolutely no way for me to know if what you tell me is true.

Any raw fucking outside of a committed closed relationship, ALWAYS risks becoming infected with something.  Either accept the risk or fuck safe.  You cannot have it both ways.

Visiting Palm Springs this week, and have been asked 3 times if I was "cleaned out" before they popped in, I was fully douched all 3 times, but 2 of the guys got sloppy seconds which wasn't a deal breaker here. I haven't seen a condom or been asked my HIV status all week, and no one has tried to slut shame me.

There is still a big stigma attached to gay sex that runs through society.

Agreed. I was hooking up with one DL gent during most of 2020 - he worked nights by himself in a warehouse and I worked from home, and we kept it exclusive. After the world opened back up, suddenly he was concerned about my status.

I’ve had guys ask me this after they’ve already came in my ass. I’m like um… a little late for that, don’t you think? I have a fondness for anonymous sex and dark rooms— on talking, just animalistic sex and breeding.

Once the hormones calm down and the extra blood has left the organ, I guess one gets thinking about their health again.

It does seem pathetic that people still use “clean” for STIs in 2026
