I used Gaydar on a regular computer at uni (Dundee, Scotland) and at home (Edinburgh) in my twenties, later Squirt and BBRT. Maybe got fucked four times a year.

In my mid thirties got a phone with internet access and started using apps like Gaydar, Scruff. But moved to Scottish Highlands and was lucky to meet guys two or three times a year. Dropped to less than once every 18 months for the past five years (post-40) and I genuinely feel like I should just give up.

I've basically not had a sex life.

Squirt.org seems to work where I am. Grindr has people who chat but don't meet much

But the time stamps on Squirt really suck -- latest updates, chat posts, mail posts are all unreliable

I had one that chatted with online app that talked to previous. I let them know I could host.  However, not seems interested as conversion went on.

In short, not help nearby in a small area. Also there attitude seemed of play a game to block me in just see pictures. However, I just wish could have blocked on app. I did see on a different platform that blocked. If not willing to travel less than a mile that not waste others time.

The part gets interesting is one from over 30 miles traveled to where host. Thus seems if serious will travel and not play games like individual maybe a mile or less away. At least in individual nearby in not show up that not have to think about other times show up when not host.

As think about their behavior and others on apps, websites,  platforms is similar to  others on a message room and private conversation in say whatever in not care about other person. Or maybe take out online to strangers that had nothing to do with in if had a bad day, etc.

Also I feel if not say in person or give a fair critique that shouldn't do online in treat others online poorly. Seems as some think can say whatever because is maybe 5,000 miles away. I take view that individual may travel, and could be in area so best not to insult or treat poorly.

I get some may look for say a man in age 20s or older, of a certain figure, etc. But I feel if not interested to say so kindly, and move on to who fit looking for? Seems a lack of decency in say not interested.

I find better to stay off apps, websites,  etc. Unless a rare time host or travel looking.

I find come across some that on a app that could be grindr, A4A, etc that has message feature to communicate with others. The part not sure is why some ask If I have whatsapp, telegram or some other message platform. Best I can figure a spammer or scammer. Because one can generally direct reply on app, website, etc.

I guess if one asks to chat elsewhere may not be real or some type of scam. Of course I would want to try to see if real or not. However, seems if asking for whatsapp or telegram that see as likely spam or scam.

I believe the majority, if not all, apps/websites pose challenges in finding suitable matches. In my observation, approximately 75-80% of the male users on these platforms identify as bottoms, while many of the tops are either geographically distant or seeking younger partners. It's exceptionally difficult to connect with someone who shares my interests, although I acknowledge that placing blame solely on them is unfair. In my experience, those who approach me are often too far away or not compatible with my preferences. It seems I may need to adjust my standards to find enjoyment in this aspect of my life.

I just had the bright idea that Grindr should place a limit on how many profiles you can block per day. Maybe 3 max. It resets 24 hours after your third block.

That way users would be more careful about how they block folks for random reasons.

Grindr could upcharge and offer unlimited blocks to users with an XTRA or Unlimited subscription.

lol

grindr is literally that friend who says "oh i have a gay coworker. you two should meet!"

that's it. the end. how the interaction goes from there is 100% up to the humans involved.

i'm actually both impressed and horrified by your suggestions that a computer program interfere in an effort to correct human behavior. your post reads like the basis for a sci-fi novel 😜

The intent is good, but consider the law of unintended consequences. If you do, you'll see this $olution would be a terrible and unfair burden on some of us.

On Grindr I'm solicited by 12 to ~20 100% fake scam profiles a day. These are mostly "love scams" and PII mining scams run out of China. Reporting them all has become too onerous (I've reported hundreds of them) so I've been blocking them instead.

Requiring users who are targeted by scammers that Grindr has totally failed to prevent from engaging in their platform (thus driving their internal engagement metrics up) to PAY to block the bad actors Grindr's negligence has allowed to fester is every kind of unethical and fucked-up.
