If it was up to you to set a new age of consent, what would the age be and why?

I think 13 is too young, they may be capable of having sex but it doesn't mean they are ready for it. At that age they are easily corrupted into thinking they want sex when they aren't. The age of consent here is 16 and it is perfectly ok. I have a 16 year old local girl constantly hitting on me and it is kinda irritating and even if I was straight I'd feel weird going with a 16 year old.

The age of consent laws are stupid as a 16 year old having sex with a 15 year old is illegal. Even if the age is only a day or two apart. Disgraceful!

The issue is that some people are into "daddies" from an early age. You're asking some of them to wait a long time to even begin experimentation... It's a tricky thing though...

While they may already know they are into 'daddies' at a young age, many kids lack the maturity to tell when the 'daddy' really has the best intents out of the relationship.

I've generally liked older guys, when I was 19 my first boyfriend was 32, and my first sexual encounter was with someone much older (I was 18, they were in their 50s if I recall correctly).

That said, in my experiences: There are lots of older guys who seem to be into younger guys because they are easier to exploit and manipulate. Their intents in the relationship isn't always coming from the best place, and young kids can have a hard time navigating that territory.

It can be hard, especially when you are young and inexperienced to tell the difference between

- Older daddy, that has your best interests in mind - that will show you the ropes, almost be a mentor in some regards, and will follow the 'campsite rule' of leaving you better off than when you found them.

- Older daddy, that is just being a skeezy-older guy that is just going to try and exploit/manipulate the younger guy.

Personally, and err on the side of caution of trying to protect younger kids from adults that are more predatory. But, I do wish the law would not be so 'black and white'. Especially when you hear of cases of teens being charged with child porn for sending naked pictures of themselves to their girlfriends/boyfriends, or a 20yr old being charged with statutory rape of an 17yr old even if they have been dating for a few years.

i say 15 cause in some countries 15-16 is a legal age and if you have it at 18 thats still good cause as i see it if the govt can tell guys they are old enough to fight in the stupid wars we have at 18 then guys should be adults at 18 but as it is the law sees that girls are of age at 18 but they discriminate against the boys so its kind of a catch twenty two on this.

Here in the UK its 16. In spain and some other countries in Europe, its as low as 13...

Personally i'd have it down at 13 too. There are many 18yo's who are too immature to have sex, so they dont... likewise there are many 13yos who know exactly what sex is and want it, so they do...

I think the UK and others who have it at 16 is a pretty good middle of the road place.

Considering i started "playing" with boys my age when i was 5/6.
