Syphilis here.  Caught it last year around this time.  Unfortunately I also use cosentyx, which suppresses the immune system, to treat my psoriasis so by the beginning of September it had rapidly advanced all the way to neuro-syphilis before I even knew I was infected.

Folks, you do NOT want to experience neuro-syphilis.  I had regular night sweats, fevers that spiked to 102° at least twice a week, body aches that felt like I’d been hit by a car, hearing loss of 40% in one ear and 60% in the other, and facial paralysis that made me look like I had had a stroke.

Luckily I was diagnosed and had to do 14 days of daily heavy-duty antibiotic infusions which thankfully cleared the infection and the paralysis and hearing loss were completely reversed.  This recovery was not guaranteed though and for a few months I seriously considered suicide.  If you’ve never experienced a sudden and profound hearing loss you can’t understand how it removes you from the world.  Music has been a lifelong comfort to me and another feature of this hearing loss was a pitch shift which made everything sound like one of those Chipmunk albums.  It wasn’t cute, it wasn’t funny, it was vicious and terrifying.

Due to the circumstances of my use of an immuno-suppressing drug, I caught the express train to hell so it was atypical, but if you go long enough without treatment this too could be where you end up and I wouldn’t wish that on my worst enemy.  Well, probably Trump, but I’m fairly sure he’s already got an even more advanced case so…

I’m not trying to moralize here, but these things can happen and it is horrific.  I know a big part of this site involves the bug-chasing lifestyle and I am not judging anyone with what I’ve said.  You do you.  But just know the impact that can result and reality can be terrifying when it actually comes down to it.

Do with this what you will…

I had nuerosyphilis in 2023. Besides tinnitus andworsening hearing loss which I was already dealing with, I had optic neuritis and lost vision in both eyes. Spent two weeks in the hospital with around the clock infusions of steroids and antibiotics. My titer was so high, I’ll never not test  negative again.

I don’t wish this on anyone.

Throat gonorrhea. I felt very, very tired and had a monster sore throat for about a week, I kind of figured I had something from that and found out later when I tested. Very sure I know who it was from because of it happening few days after meeting and it was only in my throat. There were all the warning signs for a guy who doesn't ever get tested, very scruffy, didn't really speak Spanish much, seemed super down low. No bad feelings to him, mostly hope he's alright and not ill from lots of STDs! But that's his thing to figure out and I'll be more careful in future. It made my sense of fun about sex go down a bit after years of having casual sex and getting away with nothing bad, but I knew it would happen soon or later. Currently getting the vaccine for gonorrhea so hope it's a never again experience.

Crabs was first, and several times.  My God, I love eating ass. There was one time I had them in my eyebrows and eyelashes.

I had gonorrhoea the first time my senior year of university.  I think once thereafter.

I’ve had giardia several times either from eating ass or sucking a dick ATM.

And of course, HIV. I was infected the last weekend March 1999 and zero converted May 6, 1999. I was 22.

to me this is 3 separate things.

crabs came first but to me that's not an sti/std as i once got them from sleeping shirtless between the sheets in a "no-tell motel" 😜plus anything you easily Rid yourself of w over the counter stuff is not the same thing imo

also, it's kinda a blast from the past for me. years ago when i was a newly out youngster freshly moved to a gay metropolis sleeping w tons of other guys in the same situation like a bunch of kids w a new toy it's no wonder we just seemed to be spreading the same craps over and over again amongst ourselves as it was in retrospect a "small" group of young horny just out guys and degree of separation between us was a lot less than 6! 😜

it took over a decade before my first sti chlamydia - but that was a direct result of "condom fatigue" and the increased risks i was taking w frequent BB sex. it's a whole other ballpark imo from the seriousness of the illness, to the more intrusive cure, to the having to go "public" w the news and make a dr apt and talk face to face w someone etc vs a quick trip to walgreens w jackie o shades on. 😜

still neg but this really is a whole nother ballpark imo vs chlamydia which was 10 days of pills and then like it never even happened.  there's no do over w hiv. whenever people bring up the negative effect of regular prep usage i say "yeah. you know what else really fucks your body up too? hiv" there's no such thing as free lunch, just personal choices

This didn't happen years ago, but it could have  ..... I was walking down Halsted St in Chicago (heading to a filthy "bookstore"), and other guys on the street applauded as I walked by ..... you can fill in the synonym .....
