Administrators rawTOP Posted November 1, 2022 Administrators Report Share Posted November 1, 2022 If you need content taken down off the site you need to work with the moderation team by using a "report" link next to the content. If that doesn't work send me and/or a moderator a DM. Anyone who files a DMCA with the host will get permanently banned from the site. Some exposure fetishist idiot from Asia has twice uploaded content and then filed a DMCA with the host. That's NOT OK. It could harm the site and if you do it you'll be banned permanently. [In case you're not familiar with the term - a DMCA is a legal take down request.] 6
EuroMusk76
Perhaps you should change the title of this thread. It might sound catchy and interesting to people interested in the subject matter who are tech savvy or into internet law. I seriously doubt that anyone not familiar with the technical jargon would know what a DMCA is and click on this thread. So your target audience will not be reached. I think “will get you banned permanently” is probably sufficiently intriguing to interest people in checking it out, especially if they don’t know what it is. Yup, exactly why I checked it out. I had no idea what RawTop was talking about.

If someone doesn't know what a DMCA is, they're not about to go filing a takedown request under that law. This is a silly concern to have. The target audience is "people who might be inclined to file a DMCA takedown request", and anyone in that category BY DEFINITION knows what the DMCA is. Now, it's possible that people who are inclined to file such a request might not read the rule about "this will get you banned". But then changing the title to something MORE obscure - that doesn't mention the DMCA - is even LESS likely to reach them and deter them. They're more likely to skip over it as just another rule to ignore. 2

I would think that quite a few people would would know what DMCA would mean considering the amount of porn available for downloading on the internet. Not that I’m accusing anyone from “illegally” downloading anything. 😜 Edited November 4, 2022 by badjujuboy

Not that I’m accusing anyone from “illegally” downloading anything. I'm sure they do. But then if they know what "DMCA" means, it negates the post suggesting that the "target audience" for this warning won't understand what DMCA takedown requests are. To simplify: Anyone who sees the subject line about DMCA takedown requests and doesn't know what those are, is unlikely to actually ever file a DMCA takedown request, and thus is not the target audience of the post RawTop made. Conversely, anyone who is thinking about filing such a request undoubtedly knows what a DMCA takedown request is, and thus IS the target audience of RawTop's post. My point is that there's no reason to change the subject to try to grab more people's attention.

No concrete idea what a DMCA was (although I had a vague idea from looking at both vanilla and non-vanilla google searches where at the end most mention it). Won't be filing one, but now I am better educated about what one is. All information gained can only be a good thing (if that makes sense!).
