Dry heat my ass, it's fucking hot. I don't care if I can be naked almost everywhere I don't want to burn my dick off.... I'll stick with Saint Pete for now, not too far from the beach and, despite the hurricanes, I do sometimes get a breeze. I am not on the beach but it's a 5 minute drive. If you stay in Philadelphia or New York you still have to deal with June, July and August (and even into September) and my God, those streets with all the row homes you practically died, I could hardly breathe. I'm convinced almost everywhere you move , you are going to have to deal with heat, possibly dangerous weather and of course if you do remain up north you could have bitter winters and snow. Or not. Depends on this damn El Niño or El Nina thing, I never know what to hope for. One brings cooler temps and more rain while the other seems to bring hurricanes, or at least more of them. After going through 2 major storms this summer I would love to get the hell out of here but when I look at my options I really have no where to go. Friends moved to Ashville, NC, and we all saw what happened there.... I thought of leaving the country but then I thought about medical care and medication and I thought I better think twice.....

I recall it being hotter than hell. It was a great value, especially at the time when the Baht was very weak. Language can be an issue there. People spoke enough broken English for me to get by but that was in the touristy areas. Also the government doesn't seem to be especially stable. I was never there for the demonstrations/coups, but there seem to be a fair amount. Similar to the US, there's a split between city and rural areas. That was the problem with the Philippines as well. 9 degrees north of the equator and living in 90 degree temps with equal humidity percentage and not much breeze. Makes hydration an issue and their public water isn't potable. I can confirm that it's like Hell in summer. And I stayed with friends who had screens and fans, no air con, so if you like heat, imagine that same temperature air being blown around in a hot little house. Baguio isn't bad because of the elevation and cooler climate. I'd wondered if Thailand had the same issues. The government stability worries me as to what next week's coup would be, but I'm not sure it changes very much for the average person. I've heard it compared to the notion of turning "Titanic" into a weekly series: at the end of each episode...the ship sinks. That or Groundhog's Day. 🤣 I don't think I'd settle in a city like Bangkok or Pattaya or Phuket, but don't know.

Dry heat my ass, it's fucking hot. I don't care if I can be naked almost everywhere I don't want to burn my dick off.... I once worked with someone in Tucson who lamented his choice of locale. Heat is heat...sorta. Spent 2022 in the UK during their record heat (40C or 105F where I was) where no one had air conditioning, including the friends with whom I stayed. I consider us fortunate here because we deal with it better. OTOH, they have rail tracks that melt and warp and tarmac that becomes like the La Brea Tar Pits when it exceeds around 95F. Runways melted. I'm not kidding. I wouldn't consider Palm Springs. The lifestyle might be really fucking awesome, but it's a desert and as you said, they're racing headlong into water issues. Makes St. Pete look pretty good. 😊

I have pavers in my back yard, and all of a damn sudden some critter dug a hole* under an edge of the pavers, and natch - they began to collapse. Had to hire a critter-trapping company - that was 4-figures - and they came up with nothing but a couple of cats. Then, had to hire a paver company to fill the hole, re-position and cement in the loose pavers - and that was another 4-figures. I think all the pirates we heard stories about as kids landed in Fort Fuck-u-dale - and their descendants are still in the pirating business to this day. 😠
hntnhole Posted February 6 Report Posted February 6 To the issue though, every house in the area has a/c. Most are central heat/air combination, and we have these thick, double-paned windows throughout that insulate from the outside - heat or cold. Fortunately, I don't mind hot weather at all, but I do detest being cold. Today, it's not quite 80, all the windows are open, a few clouds drifting by occasionally, and it's a perfect day.

On one side we have bush fires, on the other side, devastating floods. In the middle, you guessed right. It's just FUCKING HOT 🔥 40°C & that's NOT in the bedroom😂😂😂. 1 2

Things ultimately didn't pan out, but I was actually looking forward to the adventure. Ok, maybe not the heat and remoteness though.

NLbear Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago Not sure if I already replied. I may not retire somewhere else permanently but maybe spend half my time in Gran Canaria. Like 3 x 2 months or so. Enough time to keep up with things back home and enough time to spend it in a place where even a guy my age is getting all the sex he needs. 2
