PozBearWI Posted Tuesday at 01:35 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 01:35 PM I might actually rephrase the question from blaming Dems to "why is Putin so intent on starting WW3"? 4 5

That interpretation would suggest that you are not aware of or didn’t mind the Obama administration’s support for 2014 color revolution and neocon Victoria “Fuck-The-EU” Nulands overthrow of the democratically elected president of Ukraine and the subsequent slaughter / civil war between the Russian -speaking Ukrainians of the eastern provinces, which declared independence, when 14,000 were killed at the hands of the Ukrainian government. Also that you were not aware the Bush administration promised Putin not to expand NATO, but the Western blob-pire made Bush a liar just to ensure Europe remained the impotent bitch of the US. As usual, the heroes of any story have a lot to do with where you choose to start telling it. 4
fuckholedc Posted Tuesday at 04:44 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:44 PM 3 hours ago, PozBearWI said: I might actually rephrase the question from blaming Dems to "why is Putin so intent on starting WW3"? Lavrov said (again!) this morning that Russia doesn't want nuclear war. Which means that they are once again at least considering using nuclear weapons (take the opposite of what comes out of Lavrov's mouth). 1
PozBearWI Posted Tuesday at 04:58 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 04:58 PM @nanana man things just aren't as black and white as you paint. One conclusion does not equal every other conclusion. While believe what you will about me, just because you write it doesn't make it true. I believe those who actually want nuclear war simply want humans time on earth to be over. And ultimately that will probably happen. We wouldn't be the first species to die off and likely would not be the last. So I agree @fuckholedc I don't believe the end game of Putin's desire is nuclear war. But he does definitely want to grow his dominance on the world stage. We seem destined towards another world war IMO. I conclude that by considering the dynamics of the 1800's which lead to WW1 and WW2 are active again. We are still actively "solving" our problems with implements of war. And clearly there is a global power struggle afoot.

No. 14k-14.5k were killed on both sides, not just by the Ukrainian government (itself defending itself from attack by the Russians from the beginning of the war in 2014). Quote Also that you were not aware the Bush administration promised Putin not to expand NATO, but the Western blob-pire made Bush a liar just to ensure Europe remained the impotent bitch of the US. As usual, the heroes of any story have a lot to do with where you choose to start telling it. Come on ... America lied flat out. BUT the NATO member states and esp. the newer NATO member states also put pressure on NATO as a whole to expand. It was inevitable that NATO would expand. In defense of this outcome, there was only one Gorbachev and subsequent Russian leaders proved to be just as ruthless as those 1921-1953.

I said the opposite of that. I have said the opposite of that since around 2014 when Putin showed his true stripes. Putin has no qualms in pushing the button (strategic nuclear war) or authorizing nuclear deployment in the tactical sphere. He has apparently been talked out of it a few times though (so maybe he has some qualms, but not many). He is after all at least as bad as the Orange American Would-Be Hitler so nuclear deployment is not yet in his calculation (1) necessary or (2) something that serves his purpose. 1
hntnhole Posted Tuesday at 05:17 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 05:17 PM The thing about electing an incompetent fool President is, there's simply no way to predict (and thus prepare for) what's going to come next. Frankly, I think Putin is bluffing re: threatening to start a nuclear war, despite the long-range missiles the US is sending over there. I imagine P would sacrifice the Koreans first, but I doubt he'd actually start a nuclear war. He knows he'd get his country blown to pieces, and he'd have no more high-rise building windows to throw his enemies out of anymore ..... 1 1

While believe what you will about me, just because you write it doesn't make it true. @PozBearWI, thanks for calling me out on this, hate to mischaracterize people. I didn’t want anything untrue to stick but was hard pressed from your highly pithy highly interpretable question to gain clarity on your point. I’d def agree the world is murky and subject to respectably conflicting logic. My interpretation (but I’d love for people to share facts to move me if the facts support a new interpretation) is that in general US and NATO are much more offensive, though most large powers have their deep states that are constantly manipulating both their internal public and external populations. Even when I’m at my most simplistic and most passionate, it’s usually to be efficient with space and always happy to share the planet with people who see things differently. In my experience, most Americans have not looked deeply into Ukraine before 2022. I include myself in that space but not for lack of trying. I also find that most Americans assume the best of themselves and the worst of other nations, especially when the press has vilified and dehumanized them. @fuckholedc, thanks for the corrections to my original citation of numbers and the point about Europeans clamoring for NATO expansion, great point. I am fan of channeling real conflict away from violence and toward economic competition, and I agree Colonel McGregor that the real art of war is to AVOID one. As counterintuitive as it is, being unpredictable can sometimes have the effect of sobering up a belligerent enemy. (I’d rather spend my time on lovemaking than war-making so hope they figure it out quick. 1
