somehow anointed by god and voted for him in droves

I'm assuming you mean the Deity we all grew up thinking of as the All Seeing, All Hearing, All Powerful & All Judging of our humanness?  The one our culture professes to believe in?

Those who picked up on the "Anointed" schtick have been fooled completely.  And, they lost in the popular vote as well.  The Orange-u-tang lost the popular vote, and substantially so.

What he did win however, was the long-outdated contrivance we call the Electoral College, created when a decent percentage of the population of this country remained illiterate. They knew farming, animal husbandry, trades, but had little formal education.   It was an effort to extend the right to vote to more Caucasian citizens, and deny it to "the other".  The Electoral College has been a hideously outdated contrivance of domination for longer than any of our grandparents have been alive, and well deserves to be eliminated forthwith.

The sitting Vice President, Ms. Harris, won the popular vote with ease, yet we all see what happened.  Once we're rid of the C.I.C, (no, not Commander-In-Chief), the Crook/Criminal/Convict-in-Chief, it will be long past time to ditch the Electoral College as well.  But, as the old saying goes, first things first.

My mother taught me to never talk bad about the dead, only good. Anita Bryant is dead. Good!

I heard Moms Mabley tell that one! Thanks...

Never heard her before, I confess - I was a small kid when she started hating LGBT people.

What do I think? Death is the biggest democracy in this world, it picks everyone up when it's time! And when it knocks to my door? Let me hope it doesn't find me at home!

Seriously, I'm generally against hate speech, so, if there's any after-death soul's life, I just hope she reunites with my biological father - they should be same age as well. I just hope that they both take the chance to reflect on their hatred-filled souls. I have too many good things to live for, rather than expressing my resentment or "celebrating" someone's death.

She'll not be missed, that's certain; but then? I just let her go, and want to focus on present and future!

The world is experiencing a global crisis (and Trump is just one element) so I do my best, giving my 2 cents at work and in life, to improve what we have now, from the progressive side. Of course we need to reunite ourselves again, as older generation was in 1970-80s (damn AIDS who ruined everything and made ultra-conservatives laugh).

We should overcome internal divisions, see Alice Weidel, the leader of far-right German movement, who's a 45-years-old lesbian woman, partnered to a lady from Sri Lanka and 2 adopted kids. And her party's philosophy would like to see homosexuals dead...

We MUST stop polarizing and look around each other, to understand what's wrong, and take steps. Any steps.

Do I say "more oxygen in this world after Bryant's departure"? YES; would I celebrate with a bottle of wine? NO, because sooner or later someone will celebrate my departure and -at least- whenever I go, I want my conscience to be clean. I even helped my biological dad when he had to die, to bring him to a hospice to leave this world peacefully, so...

Unfortunately sometimes bad examples appear, they're the ones who teach us how NOT to become.

Sadly a good friend of mine took his own life, his parents where followers of Bryant.  They made his life hell,  he no longer could take it, and he did end it, so you cannot change ML y idea about her.

You should be upset with his parents who listened to Anita and not their son

The EC was implemented in 1787, and is just as important today as then. The only other way to do POTUS election would be to go by majority of congressional districts. There's 435 across the country. This would make every state important, there's Red and blue districts in every state. 2/3rds of 435 is 290 instead of 270 for EC

Well they're wrong. Trump wasn't anointed by god. Trump was anointed by the vast majority of American people who voted for him in droves. Lol! "Serial adulterer" .....please.

You know, if it wasn't for double standards, the REgressive Left wouldn't have any at all!

I hated Kamala and Biden as much as anyone, but why are you dick riding so hard for a fat slob like Trump right now? His dick is smaller than my toes...

Vast majority my ass. Trump won by one of the smallest popular vote margins in the last 100+ years, his lying lies to the contrary not withstanding.

Put another way, the margin of Biden's victory over Trump in 2020 was more than double the margin in 2024. So if that pathetic finish counts as "vast majority", what did Biden's finish counts as?

The popular vote has never been used to elect POTUS. It doesn't carry any weight. But Democrats constantly use it like it matters.

People love being bootlickers for the government on both sides, never trust anything a politician says especially during election season.

And yet this was after 100s of successful efforts to rebalance the number of voters in state districts by the Democrats (to their credit, it was a good thing to do not to let the value of an individuals vote be equitable) but with the result that Trump increased his vote count in even “rebalanced” districts.

As someone who has gotten old enough not to worry about what others think, I have grown much more tolerant of views less than adoring of homos, but I can still channel my inner child who would wilt at any resistance to my fragile handle on acceptance/approval/community and take my measure of success from an unrealistic vision of complete tolerance for buggers. I hate the idea that gay kids might feel suicidal over the silly gods children like Anita. Let’s make sure our insecure pre-teen faggots have some people in their lives reducing the power of the Anitas and helping them enjoy their unacceptable beauty and uniqueness.

Devils Advocate here👹. If the EC was dispensed with & the US adopted a similar system to Australia, who would be in government?

As both Harris & Trump had claims to form a minority government with Kennedy Jnr & the other Independent.

Just interested, as I find the Electoral College just as outdated as you in the US probably see us with a Constitutional Monarchy.

YES, I have always been & will die a staunch Monarchist. Not enamoured with C & C 😕

We could do even better if we took sexuality out of early education altogether. Let children play, learn & fall over, all by themselves but, pwith us to pick them up & guide them through friendship, loyalty, cultural understanding & national pride.

As they grow, THEY will decide who & what they are: gay, straight, doctor, council worker or President.
