What is an appropriate and / or realistic balance and how different is it person to person? When you read some of the experiences shared here you would think some guys either never eat and thus never have a bowel movement as if they are magically always able to take huge cocks without any mess. For the rest of us mere mortals - what is your experience?

So, how often or frequently (on average) would you say you douche each week? When do you find that you douche more frequently (e.g. special occasion)?

For most of my life I have been douching every day. When I was a teen I douched when needed but when I went to college and started my relationship with my gifter he wanted me douched at all times. This is a habit that I kept throughout my life until recently. I just got over my first STI of the year gonorrhea. While seeing my Dr. who is also gay, he said I should go down to two to three times a week. He said that it may reduce the number of STI’s I get. I also have had a few gi issues last year that he said could be related to removing good bacteria from my colon. It’s a hard habit to break for me. Douching has served me well. I am always ready to go. I have figured out the science of reading my body and have not had a mishap in a very long time. I do however think I am going to try to cut back this year and see how it goes.

Since all my meets are arranged and not spontaneous I tend to on a few hours before the meet depending on who the top is. Some prefer my hole to be left ripe and natural.

sex or not, douching at least twice or thrice a week is good not just physiologically but also psychologically. I use bidet, so I tend to clean inside (whole of 1st ring) every time I use toilet.

Thanks to everyone who has voted to-date! It appears that realistically most of us can hope we get a chance once or twice a week.

I am that rarer pig that hoses out everyday. I have a permanent shower shot installed in the shower with an 18 inch (maybe  20) hose. This daily need comes from both bringg very loose (and training to get even looser) and the fact I have my big toys and plugs up me several times a week as well as plenty of 1-on-1 play, fisting/sex parties and events and so on,..so it's as much a precaution as it is being constantly ready. I can't comment on "unintended consequences" since you never defined what those are. Believe it or not, intestinal flora is beneficial to one’s digestive system. Douching can destroy the gut microbiome.
