I'm usually on PrEp, but for the last year I've been traveling through Asia. After 3 months my PrEp supply ran out. I decided to continue fucking bare anyways. I came back home just recently and got a full STI screening and got back on PrEp. The only STI I got was chlamydia. Still HIV negative.  Something I realized that a lot of the pleasure of barebacking is mental. When I was off PrEp, having raw sex with strangers felt more pleasurous and exciting. It's hard to describe, but sex haven't felt that good since I was a teenager. Some guys would ask if I was on PrEP (especially in Thailand), and I'd lie and say yes. Some even asked me to show them proof and I showed them my empty Truvada bottles.

I estimate I must have barebacked around 300 different guys. And I believe only in Thailand and Vietnam PrEp is easily available. Thus, most of the guys I fucked were not on PrEp either. It was like old-school sex: two strangers exchanging fluids without any protection. I must highlight Japan regarding sex. Japan is a paradise for raw sex. The country is full of small cruise sex clubs and cruising spots all over the place. Japanese guys never wear or ask for condom (i.e., Korean and Taiwanese would always ask for my status before agreeing to raw sex). It is like if Japan is still in the 70s regarding sex culture and HIV and STI didn't exist.

Get the train to JR Suma station (it's to the west of Kobe), and walk along to the far west side (away from the main part of the beach, where it's really narrow, sandwiched between the sea and a noisy main road). Picked up a different guy anytime I went there in summer. Awesome place it was

Its really sad when really established cruising grounds get trashed by gentrification or redevelopment. 

There are a number of places in the UK that used to be great such as Russel Square and in Brighton Dukes Mound where the bushes have been cut back to discourage fucking.

Yeah, I agree. They keep clearing the bushes in two of the best places in my city. There was a great sheltered "sunbathing" spot in one rough parks, they cut the trees back in the middle of summer. So that sucked. 

At this point, I think that the council is just being vindictive or discriminatory, ruining all the good cruise spots. I guess they have not worked out a way to tax or revenue farm it.

Yes it was, to a certain extent.

I remember one guy I met on Suma Beach took me back to his apartment in Nishinomiya, and it wasn't long before he was inside me. Back then I was quite strict about condoms, but when he apologised for not having them (very Japanese reaction!) and pulled out, we got on with other things, but he was soon back inside me again. This time I didn't stop him, which in some ways was quite a non-confrontational Japanese reaction on my part!

That said, any guy I picked up from the Explosion club in Osaka, it was condoms or oral sex all the way. Osaka is pretty cosmopolitan, and a lot of non-Japanese went to Explosion, so I guess that global concern about HIV/AIDS in the 90s rubbed off on the Japanese regulars there.

But elsewhere, yes. Mostly bareback. The further away from cities, the more likely it was no condoms. Remember meeting a guy whilst on a ferry down to the far west (he lived in Shimonoseki). My experience mostly in rural USA was that bareback was more common than guys advertised.  In fact many who I fucked, or who fucked me, who claimed "safe only" in their profiles weren't.

I experienced similar in New Zealand. I backpacked through New Zealand South Island. There were no many people on Grindr, but I fucked as much as I could. All those kiwi farmers never asked for condoms and never asked me to pullout. Always deep breeding. I particularly have fond memory of a farmer who invited to spend a couple of days at his place.
