Back in the day, a gay Catholic kid could avoid the "When are you getting married" question by entering the priesthood.  When being gay became more socially acceptable, "vocations" dried up.

I used to work on election days at my local polling place and the 2 parish priests came in together.  One was flaming, though my gaydar went off on the other as well.  Turns out, the flaming one wound up on the pedo naughty list.  The other was moved to another parish though I think he kept it legal, or at least nobody came forward on him.
